he's done it to them before....

Especially in Busch Stadium....this line was way off..

But still may go cards way in extra innings....Cubs blew plenty of chances, Cards didnt have many chances....but all in all still 1-1...

Typical Cubs and why they are a great fade...quality starting pitching only goes so far. They have no offense outside of Lee and their bullpen is a joke.

I`m A Cards Fan

not for that reason, but that squeeze was one of the most well executed plays of the yr. Doesn`t have to be "yard" to be exciting!! IF we see them & the WSox there will be a lot of games like it in the WS IMO!! I dig the long ball too, but D & pitching can bring some great games. How about Carpenter & Garland going 000 into the 9th?

Carpenter was his equal!

There is no way Carpenter was Zambrano's equal in that game. The only thing you can compare is the 9 innings and 1 run each.

Zambrano 9 in. 3 H 1R 0BB 12 SO
Carpenter 9 in. 8H 1R 2BB 3 SO

Zambrano dominated this game and this so-called best team in the NL and he got no help from his hitters.

Anyone who says "Carpenter couldn't hold Zambrano's jock," must've gotten hit in the head by one of Zambrano's fastballs because if I'm not mistaken Chris Carpenter is still a 14 game winner and by far the best NL pitcher this year. It doesn't matter if Carlos Zambrano had struck out 20 guys last night, the Cards still would have won because the Cubs can't hit for their life with runners in scoring position. That is of course unless Derrek Lee or Aramis Ramirez are up. The one thing I love about the St. Louis Cardinals and betting on them is the fact that they play fundamentally sound baseball and 9 times out of 10 don't beat themselves.

Being on a great team doesn't make you the best pitcher in the NL...it gives you the most wins. There are a lot of guys that would rack up wins on that team.

To say that Carpenter has been better than Roger Clemens is a stretch.

I agree. He shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Clemens and Pedro. Carpenter would be lucky if he had 8 wins on Houston or the Mets.

Going into last nights game...A few facts on Carpenter who shut out the red hot Astros and Roger Clemens his last time out. Carpenter is 5-1 against the Cubs with a 3.35 era, but in his last six starts, he sports a ridiculous 0.36 era. That means he has given up two runs in 50 2/3 innings in those 6 consecutive wins while allowing 20 hits, walking just seven and striking out 54. Pretty impressive. Cards are 31-11 against central division opponents while Carpenter is 9-0 with a 1.28 era against the same. La Russa shuffled his rotation so that Carpenter and Morris would face Houston last week and the Cubbies this weekend.
Zambrano was outstanding last night, no doubt. But I'll take Carpenter any day over him. Zambranos outburst alone have cost the Cubs a few games this year. He can't control his emotions at times and it hurts him and his team.<!-- / message -->
