For this year, you can't find a better hitting combo on the same team. I used to think it was Manny and Ortiz but after watching the Cards/Cubs series, Lee and Ramirez are more balanced across the board. Arod and Sheffield are doing great as well but this year is shaping up to be quite a year for the Cubs duo.

One difference with MANNY and ORTIZ though over any other twosome.

Both are proven ultimate CLUTCH.

Agree though, can't beat Lee and Ramirez this year for the Cubs thus far into the 2005 campaign.

sure but if your life depended on it, you'd have to go w/ Manny & Papi or Shef & AROD...

........and would say Manny/Papi over Shef/Arod in the same situation.

Aramis is a beast. What's sad is that the Pirates traded Ramirez to the Cubs for Bobby frickin Hill (recently demoted to minors) because they couldn't afford his salary. Baseball's economics suck in case you didnt know.

Aramis has proven over the last couple of years that he is a bona fide player well worth his contract.

He also got off to an AWFUL start this year in April and May and was hitting .226 on May 26 with just 7 homers. In his last 53 games, 20 HR's and hitting over .370. If the Cubs could just get guys on base ahead of Lee and Ramirez consistently they could score a TON of runs.

Same can be said of Manny....

Actually Aramis and Manny sort of have similar swings. The way they lean in and they way they finish their swing. I think I heard they are cousins of some sort.

Cubs win! Cubs take game 1 against SF on sac fly with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th. Burnitz came through after they intentionally walked Lee :)

Cubs have won 11 of last 15. They will make a strong run at the wild card. I think the wild card is going to be WILD in the last week. Cubs and Astros finish the season with 4 games in Houston. That might decide things.

That was quite a nice "slide" by the kid Cedeno, too.

Manny/Papi...righty-lefty, best duo in the game, no question.

I'd say there's a question. They certainly have been more "productive" in terms of RBI but that's a function of the guys at the top -- Damon in particular. Cubs top of the order has been, for most of the year, one of the least productive. Neither Mann/Papi is even hitting .300.

D2, do you think the cubs will make any more trades this year?
And since they are saying wood will be in the pen, does that mean Williams and Mitre are the 4th and 5th starters?
