This question always seems to be asked of me no less than every couple weeks, so therefore going to start a seperate thread to refer posters to when the question arises.

Read books on how to learn PERFECT STRATEGY video poker.

Read as many books by Dan Paymar and/or Bob Dancer as you possibly can.

Then get the WIN SOFTWARE by Dancer and practice, practice, practice until you are playing optimal strategy perfectly.

I would suggest you learn full-pay dueces wild first...........as this is an easy game to learn and one you should master in less than 10 hours of study and practice. It will provide you with a 100.72% payback played perfectly..........plus whatever your slot card and/or current casino promo will add.

The majority of FPDW you find will be only found in 25 cent denominations because of its lucrative payout........but it is nice game to have learned for comps and promos and still afford you the luxury of picking up $7 an hour on top of the slot card comps/cashback and casino promo.

If you get lucky, you may find them in triple-play machines or in $1 denominations and this makes for a better play.

There are other games you will add to your expertise on after this that will provide you more profit ..........DOUBLE BONUS, JOKER POKER, and ALL-AMERICAN POKER to name just a few.

To advance to the full level of professional video poker status, you will need to associate yourself with the handful of knowledgable professionals/wiseguys that play in Vegas to stay abreast of the latest changes in games/progressives/promos to the fullest extent. At this time of the learning curve however, this is a distant thing to consider at this time and will probably be something you will never care to pursue.

Best of luck and enjoy the profits..........just remember to not spend all of your profits in one place!

Correct assumption.

In the trenches of video poker, many hours must be played.

Basically in a game such as FPDW that offers a .72% advantage, plus slotcard/promo incentives, your profits will come from hitting the Royal Flush.

You will hit a Royal Flush appoximently every 45,000 hands, thus if you are playing 800 hands an hour, one can expect to hit a ROYAL only once every 56 hours.

It is great to be able to find a game that is 100%+ payback before even FACTORING IN THE ROYAL.

These circumstances rarely occur, and the majority of time occur because of some outstanding casino promotion.

Hey Fishhead, I live in Louisiana. Do you have any knowledge of the odds in the basic Louisiana video poker machine? Can you win longterm in Louisiana?

choptalk,

the odds of a video poker machine are not set in stone like a slot machine's payout percentage. For instance, a casino might set all their quarter slot machines to pay out 92% of money put in. At video poker they do not set the payouts, they set the paytables. The actual play of the game is a legit deal of a 52 card deck. Casinos cannot make you "near miss" a jackpot like they do on slots. Once you put your money in and hit deal, it is a fairly dealt poker game.

The way to figure out the payout of the machine is to write down the payout table and plug it into the Winpoker software and winpoker will calculate for you the payout percentage for that paytable.

of course, since video poker is a game of skill ( you must decide which cards to hold, or fold) you must play near perfectly to get the optimal payout percentage.

its not hard, it does take practice.

Louisana has many casions with 100+% video poker oppurtunities.

Now, it is for you to decide if the regulation of these machines are on par with those in Nevada. For the majority, I believe they are, but nothing beats Nevada in terms of regulation.

Louisana is full of All-American and Pickem 100%+ video poker.........as well as many progressives throughout the state that are a longterm winning proposition.

I would suggest checking out Boomtown Casino in Bossier City for one of your stops, lots of potential there.

Just going from basic memory.

Louisiana machines only alow you to bet up to 8 credits(25 cents per credit) Up to 2 bucks per play in non casino machines.

betting full credits play deuces wild

3 of a kind 8
strait 16
flush 24
full house 24
4 of a kind 32
strait flush 72
5 of a kind 120
royal flush deuce 200
4 deuces 1600
royal flush 2000

can you win with these odds?

Also the machines in Louisiana defalts the cards that you should hold. Most of the time I agree with the cards that the machines suggest you keep. For instance. If you have a pair of 10s the machine will indicate hold on the 2 10s. I believe I have my stratagy down pretty good. Just wondering if these are good odds.

I play mostly at the truck stop joints. Are these fair play machines?
When I go to the casinos I go to play live poker.

Not sure if I am understanding your paytable.

So your 4-of-a-kind is only paying 4-1 correct?

It needs to be at 5-1 to be full-pay.

choptalk,

those are strange payout amounts. Off the top of my head( I dont have winpoker here at work to run the numbers) that paytable looks very bad. A royal flush for instance in Nevada is always a 4,000 coin payout for a 5 coin bet.

Thats correct Fishhead. That 32 is counting the 8 credits that you bet to. If im down to my last 8 credits and I get a 4 of a kind. My total credits is 32. So this is really paying me only 3 to 1 when you think about it with no progressive jackpots like they have at the casinos.

I guess what your going to say next is to stay away from the truckstops with these kind of odds. I had a feeling this was the case. I guess if im going to play video poker in Louisiana I need to stick to the casinos.

It requires an 8 coin bet for 2000 credits in a non casino video poker machine in Louisiana. I have never looked into the odds for the casinos because I only go into those places for live poker. Im sure the odds are much better at the casinos like Fishhead says.

by the way choptalk, in my second year of making my own baseball picks, I am up about 4 units. But -11 units this year. I came to a conclusion Friday. Your baseball picks are better than my baseball picks.

why fight it anymore? so I played your picks all weekend. Missed the royals play tip-off by 1 minute :sad3: yesterday. decided to pass on yankees play last night ( I thought theyd lose). Other than that played all your plays this weekend.

Thank You. Best few days ( & The only really good days) I have had at baseball all season. :toast:

Thanks for the info guys. You just saved me alot of money. It seems like the truck stops are paying 90% max. I will certainly stay away from them for now on.

Thanks MrSmith&Fishhead for the great info!!!

those truck stop machines seem VERY bad. you will lose if you were to keep playing. buy the win software fishhead suggested and play at home for free. ANd youll learn to play better too. Winpoker notifies you when you make mistakes and tells you the correct play. Eventually, you'll remember not to make mistakes you were about to make.
