Astros Pettitte -147 2.3 units play out of possible 3 units

Pettitte is just absolutly unhittable right now, while Lidle is
struggling with some personal issues that are clearly effecting
his pitching. Lefthander Pettitte shouldn't get into too much
trouble facing a lineup of lefty hitters that only hit for average
and very small power numbers vs. lefthanded pitchers. Astros
getting timely hitting and playing with alot of confidence as they
make a serious push for the wildcard with the best frontline
pitching staff in the majors and a very good bully to go with it.

TIME: Monday, 8:05 p.m. EDT.

The Philadelphia Phillies hope to follow this successful 13-game homestand a lot differently.

Philadelphia goes on the road looking to avoid another miserable stretch when it opens a three-game set against the surging Houston Astros.

A 12-1 run at home, ending on June 12, pushed the Phillies a season-high eight games above .500 and got them back in the thick of the NL East race. Philadelphia, though, went on to lose 15 of its next 22, including 13 on the road, and returned to the form it showed during a disappointing first two months of the season.

Another long homestand has gotten the Phillies back on track. They went 9-4 on this one, pulling within three games of division leaders Washington and Atlanta.

Now Philadelphia plays 13 of its next 19 on the road, including a four-game set at Colorado - owner of baseball's worst record - following this visit to Houston.

"We're not pretenders and we have to go show that," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said.

Rookie first baseman Ryan Howard had a great homestand with four homers and 14 RBIs in 12 games. He had three hits on Sunday, including an RBI double that sparked a four-run fourth inning as Philadelphia completed a three-game sweep of San Diego with a 5-1 win.

"We have to find a way to carry this momentum on the road," Howard said.

Howard's emergence has the Phillies reportedly looking to trade Jim Thome, on the disabled list since July 1 with an elbow injury. Thome, who will be hard to deal due to his injury problems and high salary, went to the team's spring training complex on Sunday to continue his rehab workout program and will soon go to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to resume playing.

The Astros, meanwhile, are returning home after winning seven of eight to close an 11-game trip. The pitching staff gave up no more than four runs in any game during that stretch.

Houston did Philadelphia a favor by winning three of four in Washington, including a 4-1 victory Sunday thanks to Eric Bruntlett's three-run homer in the 14th inning.

"It would have been pretty heartbreaking if we would have come off with a loss," said reliever Dan Wheeler, who pitched three scoreless innings. "This gives us all kinds of confidence. It is huge."

The Astros received seven strong innings from rookie Wandy Rodriguez in the win, and they should expect a similar performance from their starter on Monday.

Andy Pettitte will take the mound having allowed no more than one earned run in six consecutive starts. The left-hander is 4-0 with a 0.88 ERA in that span, walking six and striking out 32.

STANDINGS: Phillies - 3rd place, 3 GB, NL East. Astros - 2nd place, 11 GB, NL Central.

PHILLIES PROBABLE STARTER: Cory Lidle (8-8, 4.45 ERA). The right-hander returned to the team Saturday after being excused two days for personal reasons. He has been awful in losing his last two starts, allowing 14 runs and 19 hits in just 7 1-3 innings. He was 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in his previous three outings. Lidle has been significantly better this season on the road, going 5-3 with a 2.75 ERA while opposing batters have hit only .228. He's 1-1 with a 5.57 ERA in eight appearances against Houston.

ASTROS PROBABLE STARTER: Pettitte (7-7, 2.82 ERA). The left-hander struck out seven and walked one over seven innings in an 8-0 win at Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Philadelphia is one of five teams in the majors Pettitte hasn't beaten - 0-2 with a 6.32 ERA in three starts.

OFFENSIVE LEADERS: Phillies - Chase Utley, .312 avg.; Pat Burrell, 21 HRs and 73 RBIs; Bobby Abreu, 69 runs; Abreu and Jimmy Rollins, 23 SBs. Astros - Willy Taveras, .296 avg. and 23 SBs; Morgan Ensberg, 26 HRs, 74 RBIs and 60 runs.

2004 SEASON SERIES: Astros, 6-0.

STREAKS AND NOTES: Phillies - 2B Utley is batting .238 (15-for-63) against left-handers. ... RF Abreu, who won the Home Run Derby with a record-setting 41 homers, has gone homerless in 16 games since July 4. ... 3B David Bell is a career .091 hitter (2-for-22) against LHP Pettitte. Astros - Despite going 1-for-6 on Sunday, 1B-OF Lance Berkman has hit .438 (14-for-32) with three homers and eight RBIs over his last eight games. ... CF Taveras is hitting .364 at home. ... INF-OF Mike Lamb has 13 RBIs this month in just 40 at-bats.

ROAD/HOME RECORDS: Phillies - 19-25 on the road; Astros - 30-14 at home.

INJURIES: Phillies - 1B Thome (elbow), 15-day DL; RHP Geoff Geary (eye), 15-day DL; LHP Randy Wolf (elbow), 60-day DL. Astros - 1B Jeff Bagwell (shoulder), 15-day DL.

Don't use

Don't use career numbers, find them to be highly unreliable. Look
for the intangibles such as confidence. All these pro athletes have
the talent or they wouldn't be here in the first place. I look for
the players and teams that are in stretches of more confindence
than the other for whatever reasons. It's these stretches of
confidence that separate these athletes from one another more
times than not!

Rangers +1.5 -155

Rangers +1.5 -155 1.0 unit play

Just see the Rangers with more run scoring potential vs. Orioles
pitcher that is getting hammered by lefthanded average and power
and an Orioles lineup struggling to score runs. Beniot struggles vs.
lefties also, but don't think Orioles lineup as potent as Rangers
right now. Will take some insurance with runline because of Rangers
bully a little scary.

You are correct 100% Jake. All those numbers that he posted in your thread are all things that are already factored into the line. Most people think they are capping a baseball game when all they are doing is confirming the line. Thats about the eqivalent of capping horse races with a racing form. How many people do you honestly know that make a living betting horses with a racing form? I would say 0.
