Now let it be known I am not a HUGE fan of travel as it is....I love to do it...but not OFTEN and not for LONG periods of time.

With the recent events and since 9/11....I have ABSOLUTELY NO want/desire to travel internationally...I do not see the appeal for Americans to travel for enjoyment to places like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, etc....

I saw an interesting report on CNN, that people have the I don't care attitude, it won't happen to me, etc...But with the recent rash of incidents happening, even in "calmer" places like England......I just can not understand taking that chance and travelling overseas right now....I understand some people HAVE to for work.....but even if I had to for work...in a high risk country....I don't know if I could do it....

A lot of Americans who have been out of jobs for a while, are taking jobs in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. driving fuel supply trucks and the sort because these companies are paying them large amounts, but 20% of them are also being killed daily......

I am not a "seasoned traveler" and I would not be caught dead flying to Costa Rica, Panama, etc. in these days and times to visit a book...
(Did you like how I tied this into gambling)

It would not be fun for me in the least at the present time...All I would be doing is worrying for my life...

One of the companies that work for the business I am employed with recently had a lead technician come in from Israel....I was asking him many questions about his life and suicide bombers, etc....

He was excited to talk about it and was telling us many stories about what they go through on a daily basis.....When he goes to eat lunch/dinner around the city...there are often armed guards standing outside the restaurants...He said many of the bombers are now changing the way they look, because in the past they were much too easy to recognize.. (obviously, but still interesting to hear from the source)...

He also said when he goes on a bus or any type of mass transit he always looks for people wearing large/bulky coats....He said you would be surprised how many of the nuts are wearing 3 layers of coats when it is 100 degrees out

He said like anything else you pretty much adapt to it, and have to live life one day to the next not knowing if you'll make it to work alive in the morning....He said it happens 1000x more than the U.S. news even reports.....He has been on several buses when a bomb has exploded 4 buses behind him...

Scary shit to think that it may start happening in the U.S.

Personally after having done quite a bit of internatinal traveling I believe you can find all the travel adventure you want in the United States. Depending upon what you want - beach, golf, skiing, gambling, fine food, big time sports, etc. you can find it all right here at home. Take a trip to Hawaii if you want to leave the ConUS. A cruise is also an option, there are great cruises from Miami and Los Angeles that don't involve international travel.

My younger brother is doing a 6 month stint in Switzerland & London for the Pharmaceutical company that he works for. He travels all over Europe & doesn't blink an eye-but it's enough to drive my father to borderline insanity.

I know by now everyone has forgotten but the attacks can happen in/out of the USA so it really doesnt make the least bit of difference where you are.

I would say the same exact thing to anyone wanting to travel to the USA for tourism........should all tourists stop going to the USA it would mean a lot of $$$$ gone (lost profits)

It really doesnt matter to me if they search my bag getting in the rail in Vegas (I guess I must look like dangerous........), if I want to have vacations in a given place I will go

Wusses. I have travelled to Colombia and Venezuela in the last two years on business and Mexico City for pleasure. The numbers sound bad, but when you consider the millions who live in a given place you realize the odds of something bad happening to you are less than just getting hit by some freak accident. If you want to live in fear that is your business but I have to say on average the American public is a bunch of pussies who only like thumping their chests on the world stage cause we have a nice military. We lack lack courage here too often I am sad to say.

seems like things are more nerveracking at times for family back home (in the states) than it is for those actually abroad...perception and reality can be one in the same, but most of the time are quite different....

I don't think it is a matter of being afraid, but more one of common sense when you think about it. What does Mexico, Brazil, Jamaica, even Europe have that you cannot find somewhere in the US or Canada? Speaking from a financial standpoint you can get more bang for your buck in Vegas than almost anywhere in the world (provided you don't blow a ton in the casinos). What city in the world is as nice as San Diego? How about family destination better than Orlando. I have no fear of flying or traveling almost anywhere, but right now why bother?

Come to Canada for a visit...specifically Toronto. It is one of the best countries in the world. Whatever you want is here with the exception of the NFL. However, Toronto is home to the reigning Canadian Football League championToronto Argonauts. A very entertaining product. If you are gay there is many broadway productions to choose from as well as great restaurants and hotels. If you are extremely fortunate you may be able to get a seat for a Toronto Maple Leafs game...one of the toughest tickets anywhere.

I simply see it as incredibly unfortunate that George has been the best ally for Osama bin Laden and has by the consequences of his actions promoted Osama's agenda so that his philosophy has attracted far more adherents during the Iraqi war.

I understand the reluctance to travel internationally, even cruising from Miami which Wilheim defines as domestic (to the Caribbean protectorate no doubt?), but this also is regrettable since travel has the potential to increase international understanding.

It will not interfere with my travel plans but I will, as always, be vigilant. I will be spending two nights in London in October.

Bermuda!

You will enjoy it (I think). Small island...people (for the most part) are friendly (Canadian/English friendly...so it's like doubly friendly). I always like going there (it's a little pricey but there are always deals).

Of course I was just at the Jersey Shore and that's fun too...it's not even Jellyfish season yet. :monsters-
