The Psychology Of Posting

There is no doubt the one thing on a Sports Forum which causes more controversy and argument than any other, is the posted play. When I first joined, I must admit to being somewhat green (some will say I still am) as to the correct procedure of posting. As a person who thought I had something to contribute to the NFL Forum, I assumed I had to say what my play was, where I had it, what price and keep an YTD record going. It was only later I realised the turmoil caused by posted plays, the missed result, the wrong spread, and the wrong vig, that I changed my attitude.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Eventually I decided just to post my opinion with a bet rating, 1,2,3 star whatever you want to call it, no hard stats or YTD. However, as I became familiar with other posters who ‘s opinion I respected, I seen the futility of posting ratings, after reading answers to my play, more often than not, I would change my staking, making my original post redundant, I am sure this happens on a regular basis to all who post, what is the point of posting or reading threads otherwise.

All this brings me around to the reason people post plays. If you take away the people on here who do not post, do not answer, the Mugs (maybe ghosters) who post just to say thanks, you are left with Two distinct types of posters, leaving aside the Off-topic posters and as sometimes myself, rubbish posts by posters kicking their heels with boredom.

So, on to the two posting Species who mean business and consider what they say is not bollocks. As I have stated earlier, My preferred way of posting, and would rather the posters I respect post, is opinion based, open to debate, therefore taking in all considerations, this sort of format gives new posters a chance to debate, as opposed to stepping in on a play and looking negative and then being derided.

That leaves us with the poster who posts his plays with full figures. This is where the enigma and fallacy starts. If I maybe so bold and apologise now for naming him, but OldmanTed is a prime example of what I am talking about. Ted joined the Forum roughly about the same time as me, and being the genuine person he is, started posting plays with a complete breakdown of his bets. As I stated to Ted at the time and still do, it is his opinion that is important to me, not some figure that others can rail against. Regardless of Ted’s good intentions, a few results the wrong way can make one think twice about posting, which I am sure he will agree. Journeyman should have full appreciation of that scenario.

If all the legitimate posters on here, who just want to pass on what they believe to be a genuine reason, angle, stat or whatever to bet a game, without making a play, the posters left would find it hard to justify they are part of this Forum, it would be obvious they have an ulterior motive, namely Touting etc.

There is one way of separating the wheat from the chaff on here. The Mods have put in place a Forum for showing how smart you are, namely “The Record Tracker Forum” If you are confident of your prowess, post there. As for the other Forums, completely stop the ambiguous shit, 15-1 last two days, Monday night 5-0, 6-1 last 3 full moons, the list is endless, its pretty obvious that the poster is either off his rocker, severe social problems or is a wannabe Tout, either way, no good to this Forum.

I could not disagree more with your comment sir. I post my plays in this forum daily. I am the furthest thing in the world from being a tout. I will never ever charge for a pick in my life. You take one whole group of people and lump them all together into one ground. Steriotyping never works.

I do post all my picks in the record tracker forum. All 389 picks this season.

What the hell is ambiguous about stating the facts of being 14-1 in the last 3 days. Its in the record tracking forum that you speak about.

This is the comment that pisses me of the most. Im not off my rocker. I do not have severe social problems. I am not a wannabe tout. And please explain to me how a poster that post plays in this forum thats up over 100 units is bad for this place.

You owe people like me, Bucsfan, Tommorows Newspaper and SSI and many other good people with good intentions a big apology.

You missed the boat bigtime with this one.

Gotta agree with chop on this one, you cant lump all people into one group just because you "think" you have them figured out......I have NO desire in being a tout whatsoever, i feel bad enough when I have a losing day, and the followers lose, if i was charging as well, i would get suicidal......I also post my plays in the tracker forum as well, and document my record daily.....I "invite" discussion on my plays, and many times have seen someone post something, and it makes me look twice, and i may add to my play (on my own), or buy back a little thinking wow i MISSED that......

I think our "cappers" our one of the greatest assets this forum has....You will often find info in there, that you might now have seen elsewhere....I dont have time everyday to look at EVERY GAME and check EVERY LINEUP for a "change" that some managers makes at 3 p.m. that day, that wasnt broadcast...But you can make sure someone in the bases forum saw it, and will post about it.....You're liable to know Pujols isnt starting before Larussa does, if u keep an eye in there......

To call those people psycho , or off their rocker, or having social problems, is an insult to all of us, that donate our time to help ourselves and others make some coin......

I wish i could have back the 2 minutes i wasted reading this, and the 2 minutes i wasted responding.....

Choptalk,

I am sure you reaction and others to come is a knee-jerk to my comments. Plaese understand,

Apparently you do post there, so it shouldnt be a problem. As to the never this, never that motive, we only have your word, which over time will be justified. However, you should be aware posters in the past, have cried your response, only to be found wanting, until proven, why should we acknowledge you.

Surely if your motives are for the good of the Forum, you shouldnt have a problem.

Bucsfan,
As a Mod I find your post puzzling, surely you were part of the discision to have a tracker Forum. I am not arguing about posting plays, there is a mechanism for it now, one which you use, why not all who want to stand up and be counted.

My argument is against the ones who dont use it but profess great things in other Forums. Besides, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, one can be evasive or not, it doesnt take an intelligent person to see the difference.

This post in unbelievable.

I have to admit I don't fully understand your point. I am a guy that comes to these forums to look to others for assistance at making sports wagers, as I am relatively new to wagering (2-3 years). I DON"T want the people I follow to post solely in the Tracking forum, I like to see them be human beings and dynamic and answer questions people have or give opinions on games they don't feel anyone should play.

Don't you think your post has a strong hint of jealousy in it? Bucs is one I have followed since day one, and when the guy has a bad day you can tell he feels bad about it. Yet your opinion is that he is a wannabe tout and his units won feed his ego, I find that very insulting winbet, and very narrow minded and pretentious.

THere is one thing I havent quite understood in this wide world of the RX. Aren't we all here to win money? The answer, quite simply, is NO, and threads like this provide evidence for the answer. Why can't we cut all the bullshit, follow the cappers that post for free and are successful, and give them thanks instead of trying to figure out the "psychology" of their posting style???

Confused...

Winbet, I dont know what your motivation for this thread is whatsoever, but Bucsfan brought up a tremendous point that I forgot to mention. I give out my plays for free and let me tell you this. I could never in my life even think about charging for picks. I have a hard enough time as it is handling an 0-3 day as it is with free picks. I could only imagine charging people 20bucks a pop for losers. I would be suicidal just like Bucsfan says. I even got to a point this season where I had to take a big break because of a bad run I was having earlier in the season.

Being a tout is not even on my radar screen. Im plenty happy with the money I make playing my own games myself. Why would I need to charge for picks when all I have to do is pick winners? Thats the best way to get paid.

FYI: I have been offered twice in the past to join a tout service that pays very well. This is even before I started posting here at THERX. I could go tout tommmorow if I wanted to but that is not my desire. My desire is to do exactly what im doing right now. Sharing my knowledge to the posters right here for free. Im sorry if you feel thats bad for this forum.

Notice anything that sounds the same? This is not about asking for posters to put their plays in the Tracker Forum, but if they want no come backs in what they post in the main Forums, then post there, what can be simpler.
Bucsfan states certain things in the Baseball Forum, he has backed that up by posting in the Tracker Forum, alls well and I for one dont give a shit what the man says, its all there in black and white. Its the evasive ones who dont use the Tracker Forum but state certain figures. To re-iterate, my own liking would be posters exchanging views, want to put money and price on it, great, just verify it in the tracker Forum.

Like the old saying, "You can bring a Horse etc, etc, dont panic, one these days the bell will ring, and you will say, "Fuck me, ol Winbet was right after all" and your Kids will say "Mum, Dads talking silly" and Mum will say "dont worry, he's always talked silly".

Hmm, what was the odds it would be Brit to cop on first, it would seem posts like this take a day or Two to permeate for our sharp friends across the pond.

Winbet sometimes your posts get lost in translation, this is one of them...I don't quite get it....

I have seen some great posters come and go who have given their opinions for a year at a time and have great success, only a tiny percentage ever tried to go Tout and they failed misreably....

I really don't think any poster could charge for picks, after giving them a way for a year, not to the forum readers...most forum readers will not pay for picks...

I saw a guy 3 years ago have a great baseball season right here on The Rx, he tried to go tout and it did not work, he played his cards perfectly to become a tout, always saying the right things and most importantly had a winning record for an entire season...a year later he was down big and pretty much quit posting...

There may be one poster who has made the tranfornation from poster to tout that I am aware who possibly has made it...I won't say his name though...

Making money as a tout has very little to do with having the ability to pick winners.

J-Man: His point is the posters who have records in say the baseball forum, but no verification of said records.

Yeah I understood that part, but does he really think they are trying to go tout I don't think they are really

I would like to see more posters use the Tracker, I am thinking once football gets here we may see it used more...

...and if they are trying to go Tout they are mistaken, trying to get posters to buy picks down the road, the forum readers are not the typical gamblers who would pay for picks...JMHO

Journey and others,

At no time was my post intended to demean people who posted plays, on the contrary, posters like Bucsfan are to be complimented on not only their success, but in covering the argumental bases. My sole reasoning for this thread is not against the bucsfans of this Forum, but to let posters know that they dont have to have the pressure of making a play, just give your opinion.

Also that posters who dont post in the tracker Forum, should not be given the authority to post simplications of their prowess.
