Since we see bad beats written up here from time to time thought I would give the alternative. Was in a $20 buy in tourney at Party last night. Was slightly above chip average with only 240 players left in a tourney that started paying at 140th place. Got AA, got my opponent all-in before the flop with a pair of 10s. He beats me with a one-card straight. Two hands later had JJ, opponent reraises with 87 suited, I call all-in, he hits two pair and I am gone. Just like that, in 3 hands had much the better of it before the flop with the two I played.

My revenge? With a cool head I got into a 15/30 game and proceeded to win $1410

Sounds like a good enough evening to forget about the 'bad beat'.

There is more than one road to Rome!

Wild Bill, you said it, with a COOL HEAD. Most bettors after having a bad beat, lose their head and play more aggresively and lose their cool. Winning players always or almost always don't let bad beats affect them. They realize it's just part of the game.

Nice work. Seems a drastic level in monetary values to go from 20 buy in tourney to 15/30. Not how I would do it but glad it worked for you.

I would never play tourneys at my "level". Too much luck involved for my tastes, much prefer the steady profits of ring games myself. Just play those Party tourneys once every now and then hoping to hit the lottery so to speak. The winner getting almost 5 dimes for a $20 entry, unbelievable. Worth a shot once in awhile, but I do admit it feels wasteful to play two hours and end up with zip.

But you can always consider it a gain in experience.

True, but I played lots of tournaments in the past. I used to play 5 or 6 live ones a week and hit a couple of the bigger tournaments every year on the circuit before poker got crazy. Its hard to say you learn much in these crazy events where people think they are Stuey Ungar and raising every hand hoping to build a mountain of chips. The learning curve was very steep in the past because it was mostly good players making good thought out moves. These days you probably pick up more bad habits than anything except in the high buy-in events.
