It wasn't Zambrano's best effort today (most hits allowed 11), but he has sick stuff. With Zambrano it's all about his emotions and his location. His stuff is consistently scary. He throws nothing flat. Has has a very live arm. He does seem to be maturing and controllling his demeanor better lately. Now 6 quality starts in a row for Big Z. 96 hits allowed in 131.2 IP, hitters don't get many good looks.

Who under rates Zambrano ?

Better than average ... sure.

How about Jeromy Bonderman...the guy is turing into a stud in front of our eyes.

Also no one is mentioning the season Chris Carpenter is having, should be the NL Cy Young leader.

There are many pitchers in baseball a lot more underrated than Zambrano. He is a great pitcher and far from underrated.

Agree completely on both points.

Rich Harden. If not for his stint on the DL his numbers would be huge. If this kid pitched in NY he would be the second coming.

Won't matter. By the end of the season everyone will know who he is if they didn't find out last year, especially if the A's make the playoffs.

And speaking of underrated, you also gotta take a look at Barry Zito. I'm especially pleased about his performance this year, mainly because I was one of the few who stuck with him and didn't give up on him when people were saying he was done earlier this year. He has too good of stuff, and his mental approach to the game is too good for him to stay down for long. So for him to bounce back had been a pleasure to watch. Him and Harden make up a terrific 1-2 combo, and now with the emergence of Haren and the continued development of Joe Blanton, the A's are going to be fine. I'll bet Billy Beane is glad he didn't trade Zito when people were telling him to, saying he needs to get rid of him while he's still worth something. So in that sense, Zito has also been underrated.

Agree 100% Skins. At the end of May alot of people were saying this A's team had no heart and did not play hard. They were hurt and young which is not a good combination. Zito has definetly helped lead the charge back. I think him and Harden are the toughest 1-2 punch right now.

Tough to say Zito because he did win the Cy Young. Probably young guys already mentioned, Harden and Kazmir, with Z. Duke opening some eyes. As far as older guys I would go with Roy boys, Halladay and Oswalt. They bring it every game, but one is trapped in Tor, and other pitches on team with bigger names. I would venture to say they are underrated also. But the question itself leads to other questions, how can an underated starting pitcher, or team with underrated staff make you money?
