Why do books deal in square lines? How much different are the lines, if a "pro" bets or a homer bets. I was always under the assumption that money and sharp action moves the line, dealing 2 seperate lines seems to negate that. How much more profit is made from dealing 2 lines compared to 1?

Depends on the clientele. If a book has a large square clientele base then pumping up the favs will increase profits. Software is so 'smart' these days it can deal inflated fav lines to squares without offering the same line to 'shoppers'

From what I understand, certain customers, that are earmarked as being a sharp, or a long term winner, get told different lines when they call/bet online, from the majority of the betting public. Makes sense, kind of like a local knowing what a certain person is going to bet even before the customer calls. He is then able to shade the line against what he pretty much knows the shchlub is going to bet.

If you are cutoff from internet wagering at mybookie.com, you will be dealt the "sharp line" via the telephone. This comes after being on hold for a couple minutes and transferred a few times. Im sure they do this to runoff customers they prefer to not have. I wisely took the hint and withdrew my account balance and they promptly paid the balance.

Ok i understand how they do it over the phone, but how do they do it online?

Are you routed to a different page with adjusted lines if they consider you a sharp? If you logged it on another computer using another account are you saying that you would find different lines? Or do they trace ip addresses or something?

Im assuming they just redirect a query, ie they have two lists "squares" and "non-squares" when a non-square logs in they just deal him from a different database.

RED,

I doubt the books that post live lines here at rx have two sets of internet lines. If so, any player could see their line from this site and know they are getting a different line.

Bodog deals 2 lines, it's easy to tell. They often on the internet just offer the dog prices to me 5 cents less than usual, since they know I never bet big favourites.

Ie the regular line is +180 / -200, but when i log in it's +175 -195

To see the regular bodog line you will need to delete all the bodog cookies on your computer, then you can see the regular lines, but as soon as you log in, the lines will be different from then on, if of course they are dealing you the alternative so called sharper line.

Right now i just deleted the cookies and the san diego padres are +106 -116

but after i log in the line is +104 -114

One book I use shows one set of lines when I am not logged in. Then when I login a juicy line might change.

Whether this is a different page or whether the numbers used to populate the page come from a different file I don't know.
