I'll throw out a wild guess and say 25%...
Would be interesting to see a real survey on this. What's your best estimate?

I meant to say...WITHOUT Gambling. Not with . Don't know how to edit..so mods if you can change the word from with to without..may get a few replies.

Then again...this is the RUBBER ROOM

What, because even sportscasters nowadays are speaking of the point spread? Brent Musberger is the best for letting you know who he's got money on that day, particularly if it's a BS TD that is irrelevent to the game that gets him a cover... or vice versa. You can just tell... "Well, the Trojans with another touchdown running up the score." Or "what a big confidence boosting touchdown for the Illini." Something of the sorts...

Right now I'd say the number is only around 10% holistically. But probably closer to 70% during the end of college basketball season because of all of the office tournament pools and such, not to mention the actual gambling itself on each individual game.

The ABC noon college football game is probably 10% would watch something else if not for gambling... the ESPN2 game at noon is probably 90% would watch something else if not for gambling... you get my point

Good job...Mr. D!!

It may be hard for gamblers to be objective when it comes to a topic like this one.
I think in homes where you have children (boys mainly) the % lost would not be as great as 25%, but in homes without children....the % would be higher than 25%.

Just a guess.

I wish that ESPN would talk about sports gambling. Have a show that talks about the pointspreads, stats, injuries, etc. It would be interesting.

i'll go one better

what percentage of employees would they lose if they stopped gambling at ESPN?

they have an NCAA pool that has several HUNDRED people enter. they have a NASCAR and GOLF pool (pick 1 everyw eek - and you can't take the same guy twice - like FB suicide pools). they will bet on which direction the sun rises and sets. if it can be bet on - someone at ESPN will bet on it

the best pool they have is "The Deep Pool". when someone comes to bat if you think they will hit a HR there is a "cup" in the middle of the screening room and you put money in it (when i was there - it was a quarter - probably up to about $1 now). if the guy hit a HR - you got what was in the pool (minus a few bucks so there would be something for the pool to start next time). if the guy didn't hit a HR - you lost the money and the pot grew. there would be times when producers (who were in another room) would be watching the games and even call down to try and get on a certain guy. i won it about 4-5 times - my fave time being Darryl Strawberry - i put my money in and he hit the NEXT pitch off the scoreboard in right field and if not for the scoreboard being there the ball might still be going. Juan Gonzalez won me the most money when he hit a shot that barely cleared the fence at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium.

never thought serious gamblers actually watch espn!!! I know ever since i started gambling fulltime i dont pay too much attention to espn and their b/s and actually watch less of it! I dont know too many gamblers who even take it seriously outside of using the channel as a live talking stat sheet!!!

I can honestly say I would not be awake at 2am watching Pacific/CS Northridge without some action on the game.

At least 80% less viewers for late night games such as above.

Also, how many times before internet did we watch late night espn for Hawaii scores?
