Sport: MLB - Baseball
Game: Cincinnati Reds @ San Diego Padres on Jul 30 2005 10:05PM
Prediction: Cincinnati Reds
Current Line: -103
Over/Under: 9 105
Reason: The Padres begin Saturday in one of the unique positions in Major League history ¿ they are under .500, and yet still in first place in their division. And today they will fall even further into the losing column, but will still maintain their N.L. West lead.
In the short term they are on an awful 1-10 run, getting out-scored by 45 runs. The only victory came by a 2-1 count, and all 10 of the losses were by two runs or more! If we run it back further they are 18-33 in their last 51 games, and they are collapsing in almost all areas. Perhaps the mental part of the game is the toughest ¿ when you are adding the likes of Pedro Astacio and Chan Ho Park to the pitching rotation, it is a very bad sign.
Tonight it is not only Astacio that has a tough time, but the entire offense as well against Aaron Harang. It is a homecoming for Harang, a San Diego native, who has always had a special focus when facing the Padres. He was won each of his two career starts back in his home town, and pitched a beauty against them at home earlier, allowing only one run on three hits over eight innings before the Cincinnati bullpen blew the win for him.
While the Padres flounder, Harang will have a confident Red lineup behind him. They have gone 3-2 on this road trip, and are 10-5 since the All Star break. Against the 35-yeard old Astacio, who is simply at the end of his career (5-11/6.62 the last 3+ seasons), that momentum all continues.
"Who's on First" might have been a classical comedy routine by Abbott & Costello. But in the N.L. West, "Who's In First" is even funnier right now.
