World Number One.....in response to you asking for where others look for information, I thought it would be useful to hyper link some very good places for handicapping......some will not need any links ask they are self explainatory.
MLB.com.........especially useful for the game day data for the most up to date weather conditions, line-up changes and umpires (especially for the first game of any series)
Covers......an obvious choice but this is a link to some of the in-depth pitcher analysis of a pitcher...ie. home, away, day and night info...great stuff....also good for umpire stats of the home team and over/unders...
http://www.covers.com/pageLoader/pageLoader.aspx?page=/data/mlb/matchups/g4_starters_9.html
StatFox.com......another obvious choice....cannot say how valuable that the info on this site is useful. The projected umpire report, in my opinion is the best available (if you use this in handicapping....i DO BELIEVE IN IT, many do not, but again stats don't lie).
http://www.statfox.com/mlb/umpiremain.asp
The team report is awesome because it can break down the stats on all the teams home and away. Very useful for team home and away records with units and over and unders home and away.
http://www.statfox.com/mlb/teamreport.asp?sortby=team
The pitcher report is also a very useful tool as the same with the team reports you can break down the pitchers to home/away along with sortable stats on overs and unders along with sortable team records with pitchers.

Game match-ups in statfox are also useful as clicking on the team or a pitcher give you more in depth vs. a division or a left handed pitcher or day stats.....

For weather information either wagerline.com, weather.com or mlb.com.....depending on how early I look to cap a game before movement.
Jim Hiest....kinda a lil useful for the umps over/unders past five game performances and other small items on here....not worth posting this website link for the obvious purposes.
SportsNetwork.com.......good info for team vs. lhp, day game records, day of the week records and team vs division record.
http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=mlb/stat/stats7.aspx
Scores and Odds.com.....another major tool in my handicapping, as if you click on the match-up you can find a plethra of info, for me I utilize certain scenarios for the teams totals vs. lhp, day of the week (if they play very good or very bad a certain day to see if the total corresponds to that record).
Also I use alot is the pitchers, information of the year along with the pitchers record vs. that particular team since 1997....example of a very useful fact for today, did you know that Greg Maddux was 1-9 with a team record of 5-15 since 1997 vs. Arizona, well if you liked the Cubs, I am sure you did not.
Team vs team record very useful as a good stat on Thursday was SF was 6-0 at Milwaukee the past three years. Guess what they cashed two days in a row as decent dogs.

For player news and notes the best up to date site with all the information complied into one easy to read webpage is rototimes.com....

I do not know what others utilize other than covers and statfox, but after about 5-7 of trial and error, I truly believe that a combination of the above websites will make a key in dertimining the games and sides to choose. I do believe in stats and trends in baseball, what other sport allows you to pick spots 3 or 4 times in a row to enable you to capitalize on a trend, stat or angle.......GOOD LUCK!!!!!
Sorry about the long post.....
