<!--StartFragment --> Trade deadline passes without any major deals, but a minor one that is a "big deal" in my opinion is the Braves acquiring Kyle Farnsworth from Detroit. The Tigers would have loved to keep him and install him full-time in the closers role, now that Troy Percival's carerr could be over. But Farnsworth had no desire to stay in Detroit when his contract runs out at the end of the season. Braves got a "steal" here, giving up two marginal minor league pitchers. How Farnsworth does down the stretch in Atlanta will go far into seeing if he's there in 2006.

Cubs didn't get Alfonso Soriano like they'd hoped, but they did well for themselves by trading for Matt Lawton, who fills the void Corey Patterson and other couldn't as a true lead-off man without having to part with any of their top prospects. Jody Gerut will get a chance to play everyday in Pittsburgh.

Baltimore failed to make any moves to help stop the bleeding. It's looking doubtful that they can make another serious run at the Red Sox and Yankees in the East. Same deal with Texas, who acquired Phil Nevin, but didn't address their pitching needs. It's gonna be a two-team race in the West between the Angels and Oakland.

Just a couple weeks after it looked as though Jack McKeon was heading out of Florida, the Marlins are right back in the NL Wild Card race. Gonna be tough with Houston playing so well and the Cubs still dangerous. Their best hope may be trying to run down the Braves to win the East. If they can get within striking distance, 6 of their last 9 games this season are vs. Atlanta.

right on about balt, they have packed it in and ill bet the twins are through as well. big matchup against oakland starting tonight.. this leaves us with yanks/redsox/oakland/angels and its odd man out there. my bet is, angles left looking in.. pretty simple then, its a wsox vs. wildcard matchup.. with oak getting the al east winner.. should look like this, wsox vs. yanks and redsox vs. oakland... if not this, probably simply substitue angels for oakland..

nl is more compicated, no way marlins catch the braves, the streak of division titles continue.. farnsworth will definately help, if hes closer material, our prayers are answered.. think about this John, we need the wildcard to come from the east.. thats the way we skip stl and probably get the dbacks or dodgers.. padres are packing it in, along with the nationals..

WHAT ABOUT THE INDIANS IN THIS WILD CARD RACE ?? I THINK OAKLAND WINS THE WEST BUT I ALSO THINK THE ANGELS DROP OUT OF THE RACE AND CLEVELAND GETS THE WILD CARD NOD !! TOO GOOD OF STARTING PITCHING EXCEPT SABATHIA TO NOT MAKE A RUN AT IT !!

good point about the Indians, and they are yet to have their big run.. Their downfall at the moment is a losing home record (25-26).. yanks coming to town tomorrow, here is their chance to start that run.. and they get Leiter... and can they hit enough?

NL wild card race is gonna be very interesting. Don't think any one team will pull away too far. I think it'll come down to Houston and Florida (yeah, i'm believing in them again, LOL)

Oakland may take the West, couldn't have imagined that back in May. Don't think the white sox can beat NY or Bos in a 7-game series.

THAT IS DEFINATELY THE QUESTION , HOWEVER THEY GET HAFNER BACK TOMORROW. I STILL BELEIVE THIS TEAM CAN GET IT DONE ! THEY HAVE A WEAK SCHEDULE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. THERE BATS LOOKED PRETTY GOOD ON THE WEST COAST THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN 6-1 ON THAT ROAD TRIP AND HAD TO SETTLE FOR 4-3 ??

Angels are too good, imo, to drop out. they'll get hot again. Maybe having Oakland step up to challenge them will light a fire under them. Still not sold on Cleveland.

wsox can definately beat the yankees in any series.. Yankees are in real trouble with their starters and the wsox hit better than most people realize.. pitching is bigtime in chicago's favor.. I believe the Yanks slug their way into the wild card slot.. Ill bet FOX is hoping the yanks are redsox get there..

NL, houston needed the bat really bad and didnt do anything. with their 3 starters and Lidge on that staff, they will stay in it.. We need the marlins to beat them out for the wildcard, in order for the braves to get the NL west's represenative..

i actually think its 50/50 with the angels and oakland.. this oakland team is doing what it always does this time of year.. but its really a surprise this year.. angles get the reeling orioles tomorrow, should get them back on the right side.. if talent is enough, angels will get the west but sometime talent isnt enough.. oakland has youth and enthusiasm going for it..

Travis Hafner will definately help the indians offense and this team could slip in, with the easier schedule, looks like the balls in their corner....

Chicago can beat NYY or Bos...these two teams are not that good at the curret time too many questions...Chicago is playing great ball and they have the pitching...

Who fears either Bos or NY starters?

I actually think boston and the yankees will get better later and thats what counts.. Johnson for the yankees and schilling for the redsox will come to form, i think you can see the beginning of that now..

unfortunately Jman, the wsox are built like the old braves teams, you cant beat them over 162 games but in a 7 game set, they are beatable..

manny staying in boston was a very big thing..

good point, J Man. It'll be interesting to see how Guillen handles the team in Sept after they clinch the West.

I just happen to favor Bos and NYY in a short series. Both teams have pitching issues RIGHT NOW, but Buerhle, Garland, and Co haven't been tested in the playoffs yet.
