JK:

I may be wrong but I understand it that an affiliate drives players to a site and gets them to post up and gets a certain % of every postup minus any winnings withdrawn.

An agent drives credit players to a site or book and is responsible for 100% of the players funds and gets 50% of all the net winnings every week from the book (assuming that the players as a whole aren't plus overall to the book). Agents have a lot more to lose if a player stiffs them becasue they have to make good to the book for it.

Hope this helps some, and I may be wrong on some of this.

Hitman, basically but details can vary

affiliate drives traffic and post-up players (referrals). can get a % of sign-up, % of losses, or CPA (cost per acquisition)

an agent vouches for credit players, acts as a go-between form the book to the player. He is also guarantees cash to both sides of the counter...if the book stiffs, he is responsible for paying his players. If a player stiffs he is responsible for paying the book. In return he gets a % of player lossses (higher than an affiliate)
