How goes it fellow forum followers? It's been a while since I've posted or visited, I hope I'm still welcome. Well, today I have my first play in over a month and it's a biggy. Good luck.

5 units Florida Marlins +157

Tonight we have one of the best games of the year. A balanced combination of pitching, offense, and defense from both sides. The surging Marlins go to Busch Stadium to try and take the second game of a four game series. It won't be easy as they'll face off against this year's potential NL Cy Young winner, Chris Carpenter. The Marlins will send their All-Star pitcher, Dontrelle Willis, to counter. Most of you know, Carpenter took the starting job at the All-Star game, leaving Willis with relief duty. It was a tight contest based on first half numbers, but since the break, Carpenter has given reason to affirm his superiority while Willis has slacked. This is one of the main reasons I'll be on the Dog tonight. I have to think Willis and The Marlins feel a little bitter about that, and would love to take it out on the Cards. How ironic that the rotation worked the way it did. I like Willis and the Fish tonight for a few reasons. First of all, the Cards are 2-4 vs the Marlins when Carpenter pitches. Carpenter is also 1-2, but he does have a very impressive 2.27 ERA in those games. Willis has faced the Cards only once, winning that game with a 3.38 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. Now, if you've been keeping track you'll know that Willis has been pitching horrible lately. In his last six starts he is 2-4 with a 7.00 ERA. He did show signs of getting out of this funk when he pitched 7 shutout innings vs the Pirates. But out all the numbers I have, this one is my favorite stat, and if you know me then you'll know why. Chris Carpenter is 7-0 in his last 8 starts. The Cards have won all 8. He's also got an amazing 0.91 ERA in those stars. In other words, Carpenter is due a loss, and this is a perfect spot with great value. Good luck!

I don't know you tell me. What is going on? I've read things about new PG's coming in. Something like Earl Watson or Steve Blake. I wouldn't mind Blake, he's a hometown kid and his mom knows my dad. Never met her but still cool. Also heard about bringing in Jayson Williams and departing with E Jones. What's up with all that? Clue me in.

Lots of talk about Antoine Walker coming in. Also what you mentioned about Eddie Jones being shipped out for Williams and Posey. So much for what Riley said about keeping the team together. Just do not understand why they are blowing up the surrounding parts when they were a healthy rib and thigh away from the Finals. :icon_conf

COL,

How high is your 5 unit play relevant to your rating system? I think the single best reason to go with the Marlins is because Willis is a lefty and the Cards have a poor record against lefties. Also, the Cards lineup is depleated. A good reason to go with the Cards tonight is how ell they rwespond following a loss... I think they are 80% following a loss.

Steelers, what do you mean by my rating system? I also agree with you about the Cards struggling against lefties. It was a point I failed to mention. They are a great team, but they are hurting right now with injuries to Walker, Sanders, Rolen, and Molina. This can affect some teams, but the Cards are deep. And while the Marlins are healthy, Pierre and Castillo are playing like they aren't even in the lineup batting a dismal .180 combined over the past week. There are plenty of reasons to go both ways but my money is on the Fish. Dontrell + Dog money + Cards struggle vs lefties + Cards 2-4 vs Fish with Carpenter pitching + Carpenter 7 gm win streak = 5* play for me.

Antoine Walker? Man, that's a sketchy player. He can ball but he seems to be lazy and inconsistent. Maybe I'm wrong. Who knows maybe Shaq and D-wade change that. Have you actually heard Riley or anybody in the Heat org mention these trades. I mean I wouldn't be surprised if Riley wanted to make some changes, b/c in the end its about providing a marketable product, especially in miami. But sometimes i think our media likes to build up all this shit. I mean they wouldn't let the talk of Van Gundy getting demoted end for weeks after the season. They love to blow shit out of porportion. It's annoying.

You a Dolfan?

Well, I just want to apologize to any who followed. Carpenter continues his hot ways while Dontrelle keeps up his horrid second half performance. Got to give it to Carpenter, who pitched a hell of a game and dominated from the 3rd inning on. Hopefully next time will be a winner.
