Good article by Clayton...I didn't realize the Vikings signed a slew of defensive playmakers for their defense. Also factor in Burleson's continued improvement (if you saw him play last year, you know he's good ), my only question is WR depth and CB depth. But when you have Smoot and Winfield as your 1-2, that's a heck of a defensive backfield. Did i mention Darren Sharper is their new safety?

Team looks more loaded than I previously thought...I could see this team winning the NFC North and challenging for a 'Bowl bid with Philly.

Will also be interested to see how well Carolina bounces back from an injury-riddled season. Think New England missing the playoffs the year after winning the Superbowl. Came back STRONG, to say the least. Could see more of the same with the Panthers...

I see Detroit winning the division and Vikes at best a wildcard team.

Very tricky team to figure out and yes they have picked up some key players but the coaching staff here is medioric at best so will see how they can coach with talent. On paper this team looks like 10-6 but in reality they'll be 8-8 probably.

I see this team doing well above 8-8. Detroit is bad until proven otherwise, historically been hit hard with the injury bug, I think they have a shot at the playoffs, but as far as division winners go...i mean Minnesota took it to Green Bay at Lambeau last year. That must do wonders for their confidence...

you forget one thing though about that win at Green Bay.......the mooner wide receiver is in black & silver now. I agree though they could sneak up on teams but this coaching staff is lacking the skills how to press further into the playoffs if they make the Playoffs. NFC Central is the weakiest division in the NFL though.

Minnesota has Ted Cottrell from Buffalo, a real good D Coordinator in my eyes. TOo many people look at Mike TIce and think he's a big oaf with no skills. I'd disagree. One thing's for sure: this team will be tough and motivated. Moss was an abberation; i bet you these guys love playing for Tice.

Nice coaches finish last in my eyes and yes the players do like him becuase he's one of them etc.But his coaching skills and decison making with the offense they had the past two years and the playoff missed a few years back with a water down NFC is not acceptable in this bleeding purple town. The fact the new owner might spend alot more than Red did on talent and coaching staff but to me these Vikings are paper champions until they lace them up.

Moss will be missed more than you think on the field too. He was a headache off and on the field at times but he could change any game with one play!

Definitely agree he was a gamechanger, THE gamechanger in the NFL. but if u read that article up top, they have some playmakers on defense added. not just your above-average starters on D. These guys are playmakers and pro-bowlers.
When they're making the playoffs with a 23rd ranked D and randy moss, i think if they're a top 15 D w/o moss they still make the playoffs, not to mention the growth and experience the young WRs will gain from playing a whole year without distractions...

i just think it'll be a real interesting year for this team.

The Vikes offense was pedestrian without Mossman stretching and drawing two defenders. Tice and Martz in the same, how did I get to be a head coach gang. Buying defenders and having them perform on the field, in a scheme is world's apart. Onterrio out for how long this time? Maybe they will win this junk division by default as up and comers been stuck up and coming for years, and Pack is not back. Do I like the Vikes in 05? No.

Best Wishes...oF:howdy:

RIGHTWING, I disagree this team will be more relaxed without that dip chit causing problems on and off the field. His is a cancer/teamkiller. However, their head coach is a fvcking BOZO. MAY'N!!
The whole division is boring and full of half decent to terrible teams. This division is a NON-FACTOR in the PLAYOFFS. I also fell asleep writing about it.

As usual, health will determine the fate of every team in the NFL.
Seems like a balanced division if Grossman is on his game. Favre is Favre, plain and simple, the things he does with teh football still amaze me. I could see home teams winning 85% of the games in this division this year. just a gut feeling.

I think Tice is worth at least one loss.
He seems lost at times, and without Moss to bail him out, who knows what he'll do.
I think the team's fate lies solely on Culpepper's shoulders. He has to have a spectacular year for them to compete. The defense will give him a little more margin of error this year, but from what I've seen of Culpepper, he makes a lot of big mistakes and seems indecisive at times.
A reflection of the coaching maybe?

I think Culpepper was distracted by Moss' rantings and raves. Culpepper is the undisputed leader this year. For a guy that's 6'6, 265, i think he's big enough to handle the responsibility and thrive...

It will be very interesting to see what Culpepper does w/out Moss. Moss was a playmaker, but did he & Culpepper get along, or is Daunte glad he is gone and not causing problems and distractions? The dome still gives the Vikes a great home-field advantage.

Vikes remind me of KC Chiefs this year. Both teams have high-powered offenses and borderline pathetic defenses, and have made off-season defensive aquisitions to try to remedy the problem. Chiefs drafted Derrick Johnson from Texas, bought Patrick Surtain from Dolphins and Kendrell Bell from Steelers, among other moves.

But then again, EVERY NFL team tries to remedy their weaknesses in the offseason, and not all succeed.

Great parallel: both are strong at similar positions, weak at similar ones, and both play in subpar divisions. Maybe as the Chiefs go, so go the Vikings...and vice versa.

and don't forget Moss was injuied and maybe still injured but the numbers he put up at 70% can't be replaced with Burrelson,Williamson, and the mix of 3rd wideouts. The new offense cordinator is very much a run the ball 1st and the passing plays will follow so I guess the question is ....will Micheal Bennet be the answer???? The defense could only get better but the real quetion mark lays on the coaching staff in my eyes.
