They seem to be costly by conventional wisdom ? Didn't seem to bring many customers to BCN in the year ( ?) it hung here !

To me the best advertising is word of mouth. The books get constantly discussed on every forum. Mansion had banner, yanked it. I don't see ads anywhere but highly discussed. 5 Dimes gets good word of mouth, also !

Seems high-volume advertising is needed for the lower outfits like BOS, SIA, MyBookie, Bodog. Many good books also advertise, I guess that works for books (like Bodog, SIA) seeking the "recreational" player.

I prefer advertising the way Skybook and Hollywood do it... sponsoring contests. Sites like this don't need a Pinny banner, the new players will find Pinny if they read the forums.

Heavy advertising is needed to sell junk products, all that stuff on TV for $19.99, which is all crap !

Good products sell themselves ! The best pizza joint in town doesn't bombard you with fliers on your windshield... you go there and wait in line for an hour to get in the place , because of their word-of-mouth reputation !

Beware of the book that advertises too much, offers too much bonus stuff, etc.

The Pinny/ Mansion style is the way it's going to go, IMO !

I hate flashing banners. It's so annoying. I use mozilla and I disable most banners.
So banners to me is useless.

Hollywood and Skybook really do seem to have a great angle in terms of getting customers. I am sure they do well even though they give away tons in free money. They must get it back by word of mouth. I think more books should do the same.

Banners worked for me.

I sent $5 to Platinum because of their banner here at the RX - and when I read about their issues at SBR, I left.

That being said, I liked the book and the CS, so I might put in $5 again during football season for the reduced vig.

Doug, good call on word of mouth. Banners are useless.

ridiculous, u think they dont track it? u think they wld keep paying if the banners didnt generate click throughs?

many people say telemarketing doesnt work, do you think companies would continue to spend millions on telemarketing operations if they really didnt work?

I've clicked on many banners, never with out checkin with other posters or SBR first. The banners have never generated business from me. The info on this and other websites like it have.

I know a book that does "telemarketing" to people and is bashed for it repeatedly. If it works keep doing it.

trust me, everyone hates telemarketing right? everyone.... you would be hard pressed to find 1 person out of 100 who says that they enjoy it....

despite that astonishing fact, the numbers are STAGGERING, telemarketing is bigger, better & more common than ever.... WHY? BECAUSE IT WORKS!!!!

the proof is in the pudding...

LOL....

you yourself just proved that the banners work..... just because you verified the book at SBR aswell as RX, doesnt mean the BANNER didnt do its job, the banner got you interested in the book & in the end you signed up.... just becuase you didnt sign up instantly, or SOLELY due to the banner, the banner played a part in it.....

Advertising is HUGE, it plays a part in all of our decisions.....

Maybe tele-marketing USED to work to sell vynyl siding. Many are on do not call lists.

Tele-marketing by books is very counter-productive by books. For many it's very intrusive. I'd never sign-up with Richcoast sports because they bought/ stole my phone number. Royal calling after telling them not to call is unwelcome.

Many hide their betting from family, a book should only e-mail you, unless you are an active client and the situation is urgent, maybe like that NASCAR thing with 6 cars, but I'm not a redneck !

Very few situations where book should call you, unless you request it !

BEWARE of any book that calls you, without a real good reason for it !

BCN's problem was not advertising, it is PISS POOR MANAGMENT.... SImple

I do agree with you Doug in relation to sportsbook telemarketing, but not telemarketing in general

I never heard no complaints about BCN before, unlike SIA. BCN blew-up with this one future. I'll re-up with SIA as usual for NFL, bullshit and all ! I rest them for bases. It's like axing for a date with the girl that's busy shampooing her cat the night you have a date planned. Bang it on occasion , but not regular-like, too much BS.

Man, I'm not helping my way off the top 5 list ! Being there reminds of High school... working but no pay !

Doug and all others who continue to think advertising doesn't work...STOP IT! What the hell are you guys basing this on? You see an banner and YOU didn't click on it so it must be a waste? Cmon! Companies don't advertise to waste money, trust me....

SS's point is RIGHT ON! I was a "professional" telemarketer for years, believe me it works......
