PINKSTON OUT FOR THE YEAR

A day after receiver Terrell Owens pulled his groin (and hurt his upper leg), two more key members of the Eagles offense went down with training camp injuries.

Bob Kent of PhiladelphiaEagles.com reports that receiver Todd "Calista" Pinkston suffered an Achilles' injury and running back Correll Buckhalter sustained yet another knee injury.

A league source tells us that Pinkston has a suffered torn Achilles' tendon, and is out for the year.

Buckhalter missed the 2002 and 2004 seasons with knee injuries. The extent of the latest injury is not yet known.

As to Owens, word is that he's day-to-day with the tender groin. Until he returns, the Eagles will be thin at receiver.

The team is likely to get some relief at running back, however. Word is that agent Fletcher Smith now acknowledges that running back Brian Westbrook must report to training camp by August 8 or lose his shot at unrestricted free agency in 2006. Smith previously said he was not aware of the little-known rule requiring players under contract to report at least 30 days prior to the regular season opener in order to earn a year of accrued service.

As one league insider told us, Smith likely would have been suspended by the NFLPA if Westbrook hadn't reported on time and Smith hadn't warned him of the August 8 rule, which was first reported and explained in this space on Tuesday evening. Smith also likely would have faced a claim under the NFLPA's new mandatory liability insurance policy, since Westbrook would have lost millions if forced to play under the restricted tender for a second year.

So, Fletch, we're not expecting a cut of the commission on Westbrook's long-term deal or anything, but a "thank you" card and a box of nonpareils would be a nice touch

I love it. Fuck the Eagles. Go Skins!

Not that these guys were huge difference makers...and I don't root for injuries...but any bad news for Eagles fans is good news to me. End of story.

Actually, Pinkston being out saves the Coaches plenty of headaches. Now they dont need to involve him in 3rd down strategies, which will mean a 50% more completion rate.

Pinkston is actually valuable to the Eagles. Even though he drops passes and is afraid to go over the middle, he is a deep threat. The Eagles have only Owens, Greg Lewis, Billy McMullen and Reggie Brown(rookie). The Eagles lost several players (mostly valuable backups) to free agency and signed nobody. They are not the deepest team. These injuries hurt them.

Jacks,
In the NFL, nobody is valuable when,

He is a waste of space, in order to do what you say, he must punish on a regular basis, at the end of last year, secondaries were leaving him wide open, and stiil he couldnt catch the ball.

No wonder people have problems winning money, take the blinkers off, right the ship. Same Idiots are saying the Vikings will miss Moss, why jokers. Defensive Co's will have to up their game now, no double cover Moss b/c Culpepper throws to him 50% in must situations. I have even read comments on how Fisher doesnt know what he is doing, hopefully, I will post a mind blowing (at least for some of you jokers) Head-coach mentality, game situation, fall behind, get in front, verses the spread and M/L through 4 Qtrs Thesis.

Winbet,

I understand your points about Pinkston but the Eagles have no depth at receiver. The Eagles like Brown but he is a rookie. Greg Lewis played when Owens was hurt last year and did ok. McMullen has been in Andy Reid's doghouse as he can't catch a cold. They also have no big backs. They drafted Ryan Moats but he is Westbrook's size. Reno Mahe and Bruce Perry are also small. These injuries do hurt the Eagles.

Jacks,

We can shove a pea around a plate all night, last year the eagles had an option of Pinkston, which when they took it, let them down badly. With him out of the ball game, they will incorporate new plays, will they work? who knows, but it isnt going to be less successful. As a Def Co, I would be pissed, as I would have let Pinks wide open on 3rd down and use a blitzer instead, work the % out.:103631605

Pay more attention to the offensive and defensive lines and less attention to the glamour positions and your handicapping will be vastly improved.

Green Doberman,

I do agree with you about the line play. The Eagles do get Shaun Andrews back but they lost Mayberry. Andrews has never played a down in a real NFL game so the jury is out. Their offensive line is solid but Runyan and Tre Thomas are a year older. On defense, they were counting on McDougle to start and that obviously will not be the case at least the first part of the year. They do need Kearse to stay healthy and he's never done that 2 years in a row. The Eagles will still win the NFC East and probably the NFC but they do run a West Coast offense and rely heavily on their skill players.

Best statement you can say about NFL:103631605 However, not one that gets people talking. The sad truth is, over half the fans, not alone punters, cant name their starting O and D Lines, still, thats why we have a huge edge Doggie.
