Does anyone have any contacts in Vegas, that they would be willing to set me up with? Im planning on moving out there in April or May, but I would like to have a job lined up for me. Im a jack of all trades, I have an AS in Info sys, and am obtaining a BS in Info sys security. But, Ive done a ton in the customer service industry, know a little about everything casino related, have run a website, done marketing for major online poker sites, etc.

Your best bet would be to join a Union out there.

Like a union to be an electrician or painter? No. I enjoy wearing suits. Id also be interested in "jobs" too.

AK,

Generally someone has a knowledge of something before they give advice about a subject. What did you do, Google the word "job" to find out that little bit of information?

Look I will give it to you 100% honest. There are THOUSANDS of people plotting moves to this town as we speak. Almost all are thinking how great it would be to get something lined up before hitting town. Keep wishing. People here are so used to getting resumes of people ridiculously overqualified because they just want a place to hang their hats and cover the rent.

I have seen numerous people asking for a job that would pay less than half what they make from where they come. When someone sees that they usually trash the resume instantly. People here don't want to deal with that unless it is truly a position they can't fill. I have been transferred to Vegas for my job, but I wouldn't have got that job if I applied from outside. It just doesn't happen.

Best thing to do is get out here and show some stability. Get a local license and have local address and number. Still expect some "discrimination" in getting a job compared to the locals, but with the job market booming here you will get in somewhere. Then use the first job to build a resume. This is definitely a town where you get far jumping for another ship at times. Ambition really does matter and is expected so just be prepared for that above all else.

Wild Bill, thank you for the advice, thats the kind of insight I was looking for. I was kind of under the assumption that thats how it would be. Ill just save a little extra, and just dive right in, take a risk of being unemployed in a new town for 6 weeks or so. One thing I dont lack is ambition though.

If this isn't a great example of how a good discussion in the forums gets hijacked and wrecked these days. Unbelievable. Then again not like the "other" place out there won't be plagued by this too...

If you don't mind being a mindless tip whore, cocktails, dealing, bartending, baggage and bell, room service, valet all pay very well on the strip, less so "off strip" but still a living.

There are tons of jobs in the Casino, Hotel industry but most of them are called ...
