What a disgrace for the Northside team. The Cubs have no business playing the way that they have the last 2 seasons. I dont want to hear about the injuries. This team is truly underachieving big time. They have given up on the season. How can they keep laying down night after night. Dusty must get run!!!!!!!! Tonight

Agree with you. The Cubs are underachieveing big time. I cannot believe the way that they have been playing lately. It is as though they have given up on the season. Having Williams out there pitching for you does not help either. He is terrible. Just started a thread about him in the baseball forum. The CUBS suck.:finger:

It always makes me scratch my head when guys try and blame this on Dusty Baker. What makes you think this team should be any good? Their offense is a joke...they have yet to go out and get a leadoff hitter and everyone outside of Lee and Ramirez are horrible. What upgrades have they made personnel wise that leads you to believe this team should be any good?

Their pitching...they never address their horrible bullpen. Wood and Prior remain the most overhyped duo in baseball. People act like these are 20-game winners.

Honestly, what leads you to believe this team was suppose to be any good (or better than when Baker arrived)?

Dusty might not be a great manager, I haven't followed him since he left the Giants. But who can say that lineup could possibly lead to more wins? What did they do to upgrade their roster in the off season?

What about that bullpen...what major moves did they make to upgrade that pen that has cost them for several seasons?

People can use Dusty as the scape goat, but it isn't like this team will be any better with a new manager.

I promise you, If Bobby Cox were the manager of the Cubs right now they would be the leading team in the wild card. They are under achieving Clip. Not all the problems are Bakers fault. But when you go down the whole lineup its clear they are not playing up to there ability level. Has in game managing is horrid. I cant count how many times he has mismanaged the bullpen this season. They may not be World Series contenders, but they should be playing much better than they are right now.

I am not disagreeing with you other than that lineup is horrid.

Having good options in the bullpen makes a manager look a lot better, or a lot worse. That bullpen has been horrible for years. What have they done to upgrade it? That is a legit question...I really don't know. I look at their bullpen and laugh. I would make the starters go 8 innings every game even if they were getting shelled. LOL

On offense, what have they done to upgrade? Just curious why anyone believes this team should be any better than in recent years.

They are being 2 hit by claussen for Gods sake!!!!!! at home against the Reds. This series means the world to there playoff hopes. They are playing like they could not care less.

They need to call Cory Patterson back up from the minors. They need to take there lumps with his devolopment like the Braves did for Andrew Jones. He has too much potential to be in the minors right now. Strikeouts or not.

He probably will be fired at the end of the season, but solely because the team has appeared to quit on him. They are playing horribly over the last week with just no production and I would be surprised if they could muster .500 ball from here on out. Some of it may be his fault, but most probably won't be. In the end though the manager always gets blamed and this one almost surely will. He's a decent manager, not a great manager, but as in most cases managers need the right mix of talent to make it happen. This is why I think you see so many GM/head coaches in other sports. Surprised it hasn't happened in baseball, but if the GM isn't on the same page as the manager it is tough to win. Still amazes me though that Sabean, a good GM and a guy that got a lot of kudos thanks to the way Dusty managed his club, didn't like the guy much and didn't mind him getting kicked out of town. I mean the team that almost won the series was by no means in the top 5 teams that year, but Dusty was brilliant in the postseason and got a lot out of Barry and the 24 other guys he had. Maybe Sabean and by extension ownership was never willing to forgive Dusty for blowing the 5-0 lead...

Ok...but what additions have they made? This wasn't a great team before Baker arrived. Before Baker and steroids became a focus, Sosa was a monster for them. Lee replaces that bat, so where else did they improve?

Since Baker arrived:
2004: 89-73
2003: 88-74

Before Baker arrived:
2002: 67-95 - 30 games back

This team was 67-95 the year before Baker arrived...he took that same team the next season and went 88-74. This was done without personnel upgrades.

I don't think there is any doubt the other teams in that division have gotten better with their roster...what have the Cubs done?

The blame goes to the GM and the front office. Baker has proven what he can do...this GM has done nothing.

The false impression that this team should be any good was the over-achieving they accomplished when Baker took over.

Dusty Baker is down 8 runs in the top of the 7th, Cincy has a runner on third and one out and the big dumb goofball internaionally walks a .236 hitter.

Hey big Dusto, unless you planning to put up a quick touchdown against a pitcher who has given up two hits to your stellar hitting club through 6, you deserve to be fired tonight.

Maybe he choked on his soggy toothpick and his marble mouth blurted out Walk Him !!

Clip, its things like this x1000 that im talking about. I dont have time to list everything one by one. Things like this happen every game. Especially with the bullpen.

I think I answered my own question though...not a single post has been made answering my question about why this team should be any better than before he arrived.

This team may have given up on him and it is his time to go...I'm not doubting that. But the false sense of this team being any good was from the over achieving he brought in his first 2 seasons.

This team was 67-95 before he arrived...and has not made any major moves to improve while St. Louis and Houston continue to make moves to get better.

Does Baker suck? Probably...but he has proven he can win with talent.

What has this GM proven?

Forget ArgueMent Joint

Baker has been doing this constantly all year
he is a complete idiot

He has pitchers hit with the game on the line, when a pinch-hitter is CLEARLY in order

TIME AND TIME again

The way he aligns defenses, etc...he is a fucking tool and hopefully will be gone soon
