THIS IS A QUOTE FROM MILLENIUM
Lastly, Millennium Sports was designed with the recreational player in mind. Most posters on the RX would not be the type of player that the company looks for. If Millennium was a company such as CRIS, we would be up on the DB screen. The company never seeks out prop players,

But on the otherhand they take a ton of action from guys paying upwards of 500 dollars a weekend on picks from Phil Steele. I know the pro doesn't pay Phil, but the recreational guy aint paying 500 on picks so he can bet his 50 dollar 2 team parlays every week.

Is recreational sportsbook used at the sportsbook convenience when somebody gets lucky and actually asks for a W/D??? that is my guess.

Nobody can answer this question because the sportsbooks themselves that claim they are a "recreational book" don't even know half the time.

I know exactly what a recreational player is...

one who bets small per game for FUN...maybe up to 500$ but usually between 50-300...they might play 3-4 games ALL weekend and are not going to jump off a roof and kill themselves if they lose as it is entertainment to them...They do not scalp...they do not have Donbest and check 400 different books for a .001 drop in a line vig..They just Bet for FUN, if they win..they win

It means, among other things, that if you lose money but they dont like your "style of play", they don't want your action.

Millennium may try to cheat you as they tried to do to me... as I said in the other thread:

I can confirm that at least 2 times, and I suspect 4 times that I remember - I took typed in my password on their confirm screen with 1 spread and it confirmed (after their annoying delay) at a half point worse. The last 2 times it happened, I knew for sure and took screenshots and talked to the tech dude on the phone who was cool and changed both plays for me - saying something like the line changed at the same time. Funny, never had that happen to me at any other book.

nimue is exactly right.

dante, I think a rec player can bet dimes. The amount you are betting just reflects on how much money you happen to have. A multi-millionaire betting dimes can just be betting recreationally. I'm sure Charles Barkley bets many dimes, but he's a rec player, he's no pro I'm sure.

As for jumping off a roof, I'd think rec players are more likely to do that than pros.

A recreational vs. pro player is nothing more than a label an individual book uses when they don't want all or some of your action, for whatever reason. Be it that you win too much, bet too much, bet certain numbers, bet certain types of lines, do too many withdrawals, on and on and on. There is no defintion. It is in the eye of the bookmaker.

Dante,
Thats one definition of many, personally, I would replace recreational to Hobby. As with any hobby, people can take it very seriously, as in Golf. Like you said, I would not be suicidal if I lost, but I do hate giving my money away easy, if you are not trying to make a living from it then its purely a hobby, some people spend hours collecting stamps.

Let's put it this way. Some books might deem you a NON-rec player for any ONE or more of the following reasons:

-- winning shortly after posting up
-- winning over a long period
-- betting larger than the book is used to
-- betting their odds that are better than most books
-- betting non-standard wagers (i.e. props, futures)
-- making large deposits
-- betting before line moves
-- betting after line moves
-- betting both sides of the same game after a move

I'm sure there are more. And it's no balancing test. If you fit, or sort of fit, any of these or other criteria then you might be deemed non-rec.

If you're betting after the line moves, even if you do it almost every time...what difference does it make according to most bookies, you will get crushed betting into that.

I always wonder this same question. I know I bet much more than the average guy - between 3-10k per game - but I do not consider myself "professional".

I dont know when a line is going to move and the only steam I know comes out of my shower.

I have been banned before for being "professional" and I know the only reason is that I do deposit big and withdraw big and bet big - but Im as big of a betting moron as the next guy. Im no "wise guy" - I just cap and bet.

I do always worry about this tag though. Pinny seems to be my main outlet and I dont think they would ban anyone.

recreational player is very subjective, but I think all books essentially want players that lose.

The easiest and shortest answer is: A recreational player is one that does not line shop. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Recreational player: Someone who takes wagering as "seriously" as Ricky Williams takes playing football.

When the shit books use the term "recreational player", it is code word for losers only. The dollar amount bet has zero to do with it as already pointed out.

Recreational player to me means a bettor who prefers parlays on football weekend. Does not know who is playing until he is ready to make a bet. Does not bet on baseball or basketball. May bet during March Madness. Will bet on his favorite team no matter what the line is.

Recreational players get hot.

Recreational players can win a lot of dough-ray-me.

Recreational players should avoid books with the word "recreational" anywhere on the website.

Period.

That's pretty close, but I think it has more to do with steam chasers. It's not rocket science to identify the guys who are pounding the moves.

This is the best advice given to recreational players ever posted on these forums.
