Prior has said this guy is just as good as himself...let's hope he'll be a healthier pitcher than his former teammate!! Looking forward to watching him. He shut down Braves starting line up in Spring Training...now time for the real thing......
Barely two years after he was drafted, Anthony Reyes will make his Major League debut on Tuesday night. Reyes, the Cardinals' 15th-round pick out of Southern California in 2003, will take the mound against Doug Davis and the Brewers at 7:05 p.m. CT at Miller Park.
Reyes, 23, has spent the year at Triple-A Memphis, and for the most part he's carved up hitters in the Pacific Coast League. He's racked up more than a strikeout per inning while posting a 3.44 ERA in his second full professional season. Last year, he started at high Class A and went on to dominate Double-A, making a name for himself as a prospect.
The former teammate of Mark Prior's at USC will only be around for one start. The Cardinals are utilizing him in order to give their five regular starters an extra day of rest in the midst of a grueling stretch of the schedule. Reyes will have his contract purchased from Memphis before the game and will be optioned afterward. Reyes' opponent is a veteran lefty who will be none too thrilled to see the Cardinals. For his career, Davis has a 6.84 ERA against St.Louis.
