quit your day job ?

could you take the day after day routine of playing 5 or 6 hours to pay the bills ?

i have been playing 3 or 4 sit and go's at a time. usually hit the podium over 1/2 the time.

almost cant see myself going back to playing 1 event at a time. seems like a waste of time.

I make about double that, and I will probably top out at 75k this year. Thats how much it sucks to play, when you know you have to do it. It gets very boring playing on a computer for an extended amount of time if you HAVE to do it. I usually have to force myself to play more than 15 hours a week nowadays, ecspecially when its summer. If you ever sit an play 4-6 tables of limit for more than 6 hours, you are dazed and confused, and its hard to think straight when you are finished, its not a lifestyle I reccomend.

Just about anything will be a grind if you do it for a living. It may seem unbelievable to us, but I am sure being a professional athlete is a job to those who do if for a living.

Depends on what you rcurrent job is. If you're standing on an assembly line for 10 bucks an hour, it's no contest. If you're a professional golfer, it's also a no contest. I don't think playing poker all day as bad as some people are say. I play around 20-30 hours a week as a second income and it does get old but it beats the hell out of what millions of people are doing for a living right now.

i probably do make close to that and i'm considering doing it full time but it seems like it would be such a grind. its fun to play 5-8 hours a week but to do it full time its stops being a fun hobby and starts being a grind. not sure it can be any worse than my job though

Doing something you like at $40-50 an hour seems like a pretty good go!

I agree anything you do for a living can get dull and mundane but some jobs are much better than others.

I have way too much fun playing and i make a decent living in the "real world", so there is no reason to take it on full time. But even if my job went south i cant imagine playing poker for a living. I wouldnt want to risk tilting away a mortgage payment.

with that being said i would love to find a way to get more poker time between family, work, eating and sleeping. There just arent enough hours in a day if you ask me.

What are good books on subject and what limits/ games do you play to average that rate ?

I'm about ready to try it, but my experience is live 7-stud at mostly 5/10, 10/20, never over 20/40. I guess I'd have to switch to Hold'em , and certainly internet !

No, I have played for extensive periods of time and I always need a break away from the game to avoid burnout.

Since sept 1st, i have logged 1655 hours of online poker. That is around 34 per week or so. I havent had any issues with burnout yet, but I know all my friends are "burnt out" at the jobs they have making way less than I am.
Many benefits come with doing this for a living, but you have to be a special type of person, I believe I am the perfect person, because I am highly self motivated, have huge amounts of discipline(never tilted at a poker table/get my hours in). I'm sitting here watching TV while I play, talking to friends online, it doesnt really feel like work. It only feels like a grind when I'm losing. Gotten to travel for work to Vegas many times and Tunica, played a few big tourneys, cashed a couple, be on natl tv in november, cant think of anything better to do currently besides being a professional athlete. I would love to play golf for a living, that has to be a rough life.

That's awesome Matt!!

Based upon the number of tables that you can manage to play at once, it's quite clear that you have one hell of a special talent.

Not to mention Matt will be featured on national TV soon.

Where I'm guaranteed to look like a moron during the "Young Guns" segment. They interviewed my parents(who flew out that morning for the final table TV taping) and myself. It was all scripted, they had my mom say she came up with "Indiana Matt" even though that wasnt the case. The guy also wanted me to sing the IU fight song, which I didnt know the words, then he made me say something about needing to get the lyrics and needing to come back to the UPC next year and win. I asked him "What now?" 3 times to that when he wanted me to talk about coming back next year and winning. I didnt really want say that at all, but didnt want to alienate the head guy as he spent 35-40 minutes with me afterwards and spent no time with the winner as far as I know, so I felt fortunate to be getting the "airtime" None of this may even make the show, I get the screener in sometime this month, so I'll know then.

It's just as easy to win from sportsbooks if you know what you are doing.
