I would make AROD a favorite over MANNY of breaking the record.

For one, he is on a better pace than Manny because of his age and I also would expect AROD to have a longer career and probably be more productive than Manny will be when each reach their 40's.

Eddie Murray drove in 1,917 in the 'dead ball, pre-steroid' era of baseball , Murray only drove in more than 116 RBI once in his career (124 in 1985), he was the the best RBI man of his time, and in his prime years , late 70's to early 90's, 100 RBI was still the benchmark...he also played on mainly average run-scoring teams.

I wonder how many runs these two would have drove in playing on teams that weren't peppered with players on steroids...

Jman--Answer me this

How is a guy who is 63rd ALL-TIME in RBI's and have NINE gold gloves not only not be in the HOF, but be completely OFF THE HALL OF FAME BALLOT!?!?!?

The thing about Dwight Evans, he never won a ring (in his case and Jim Rice a ring may have put them over the top) Evans was more of a 'longevity type' player (when measuring whether he was a Hall of famer)

Here's how I see Evans ...I think he is just marginally off HOF criteria, very close too, but just falls short of Hall of Fame...

What kills him..no ring, he didn't drive in more than 71 runs until his career was half over, a somewhat low .271 career average, combining this with his great arm and glove and all this adds up to about 85% of what a hall of famer is IMHO...and I liked Evans very much!

All of that combined with playing in the shadow of Yaz, Rice, Lynn, Fisk, he was always the 3rd or 4th bat on those run-scoring teams...

Great player? no, very good player? yes! He was a gamer and a winning ballplayer...

I still can't vote him in Fishstremski :icon_conf :103631605

I'd still put Jim Rice in over Dewey:suomi:

Jim Rice was a great great player from 1975-1986, his career just didn't last much past age 33 is the only reason he isn't in...

I'd like to see Hack Wilson's 191 RBI in one season challeneged seriously!

Talk about a bizarre career, it was Hack Wilson's career...

Also if I'm not mistaken for years Hack's RBI record was 190, at some point recently they credited him with another RBI.

Wilson's career greatness only covered 6 years...he has to have one of the lowest statistical career's in the HOF.

Hits 1,461
RBI 1,063
HR 244

His claim to fame the incredible RBI season and 56 homers in one season....his entire career lasted just 11 seasons...from what I recall reading he had many off the field troubles.

By age 31, Juan Gone had 1300 RBI , he was the one guy who may have been Manny's equal in this era.

FISH, do think Manny will be driving in runs for the SOX in 2006? I know Theo would love to get rid of that contract and I think he will over the winter. I hope they keep him. MAY'N!
