From what ive been reading, it appears that one can beat online poker if one takes advantage of all tricks (5am-1pm playing time).

Does everyone here really win at poker all the time?
Lying about it?
Mistaken about how much u win in poker?

Lots are probably lying. I would assume that the real disciplined guys do win. But too many of us lack that essential element.

Its like anything else

Majority of the people are not going to come on and talk about their losses extensively

They will tell you when they win $5000 in a night, but when they lose $20,000 over a week you don't hear much of a peep, or you hear about the one game they won, not the 6 they just loss to go with it

Nature of the beast

I agree ZZZ, no one wants to dwell on losing sessions. But ive seen plenty admit that they've had them. Someone even admited they had a rough night in the thread ID started the other day.

I'm talking in more general terms

I can almost GUARANTEE that a lot have lost big...and never made a mention of it...

Some do yes.....but it's not advantageous to go around stating that you just lost $3400 in a night ....or you just chased and lost $2000 more

I'm not saying people dont admit it or say it...I mean in GENERAL

;)

I lost 11k at party poker last year over about 3 months. I haven't played since thank goodness but I've had some big urges to. I'm currently down about 9k this year sportsbetting.

Gambling is a tough nut for me.

sports gambling is far more difficult to win at than poker. That is why you will see more people profiting from poker than sportsbetting.

To win at poker, in my opinion, you only need to do 3 things.
1- Learn the game- buy a couple of books.
2- play at a level that you can beat until you improve enough to move up
3- Have discipline
- of course it can be more complicated as you go along, but i think those 3 elements are enough to turn a beginner into a winner.

If you can just do those 3 things you should make money playing poker. The problem is most people lack all 3 elements.

And you only hear the winning stories because those players that lose dont continue playing (for the most part). Bad players lose big relatively quickly and arent going to be excited enough to post about it. Those players that turn a profit are the ones excited enough to discuss it online.

Been playing hold'em for nearly 20 years and have always been basically a breakeven player in that span.

With the internet it is completely different........poker has become very profitable for me now.

The main reasons for this are....

1. Influx of bad players and newbies to the game.
2. Overlays found in many tourneys(more money paid out than taken in with some tourneys)
3. No toking the dealers(this really adds in the long run).

Not related to the internet, but I have also done what was suggested in an above post and made a better effort to study the game more through the great many books and internet readings that are out there on the subject, something I never bothered to do before.

There is no question about it, many people are profiting from the new poker craze..........but on the same token, there are tons and tons more losers.

The one thing that most poker players have a hard time learning is that ALL players have slumps. Bad cards, bad beats, bad game choices, etc all play into this. I even read where Doyle admitted having a losing streak of around 6 mil over the last year. It's how a player handles these streaks is what separates the pros from the amateurs.

Online Poker the cards go on streaks...Problem is people lose as little as 10$ then go on a crazy TILT and lose there entire balance...THAT is the table you hope you are on when they go on tilt..

bad players and bad money management are abundant in online poker...

But when the cards do not come for you ..thats where you choose to be the BAD player or not by either going on tilt or Exiting out of the poker room and trying again later

i have had good success in on line sports betting, then tried to get into poker, read all the books, must have 10 of themin my closet, really studied them and learned a ton by the way, started slow on line, won a bit, and when I stepped up to higher level games I came out a loser, and pretty big loser, I dont have the same style at on line cards to stay tough and always make the right choices for some reason. Also after being trapped by at least 2 playing partners on line I gave it up. lifetime loser -$6k or so in poker. I might go back to it at some point.

basically I could be honest and look in the mirror and realize that while not going on TILT per say I would just make various not sound plays in the urge to win a hand.

i have made a lot of money playing live poker. i am about even playing online. i hear all the time how crappy the online players are, how they call anything, blah, blah, blah. my personal opinion is that something's not quite right at some online sites. i dont say that because i have not won money...i say that because of the % of times i have seen "people" make ridiculous calls and catch on the river. i have seen many people catch on the river in live games but, the % of times it happens online, and (more importantly) the pot sizes when the miracle card tends to fall has me convinced that i am not getting a fair shot. i do not play online anymore.
