ST. LOUIS -- Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman injured his left ankle early in the second quarter of Friday night's preseason game against the St. Louis Rams and was carted off the field.

Grossman, who played in only three games last season before being sidelined by a right knee injury, was hurt with 11:08 to go in the half as he threw a pass. After being flushed out of the pocket and being spun around by Trev Faulk, he stood back up, limped and signaled for a trainer.

He then sat down and grabbed his left knee. He slammed his helmet on the cart before he left.

D'oh, guess that decision to not have an experienced backup looks pretty silly now. Time to hit the waiver wires.

Kyle Orton can be this years Big Ben...The kid has a gun for an arm and was aboutr as good a QB as there was in college last year till he hurt his hip.

You think he'll get the job? Or will it be Hutchinson?

BTW, I agree Orton has more talent than Hutichinson. But I doubt that he will start the year as the starter.

I 1000% agree with this statement!!!! This guys release is SERIOUS, and he can build a career with the BEARS. Grossman was a paperbag when he got out of FLorida. Strong arm. that was it. Sad though for the kid

I didn't see tonights game but in the first game Orton looked great. Much better than the other guys. But there is a reason he wont be this years big ben, he is on a bad team. Roethlisberger's numbers aren't that great but he's on a team that has a great defense and a great running game so he doesn't have to do that much. If he can manage the game and not throw int's Pit wins. If Orton does get a chance to play he won't have that luxery. He'll have to try and win the game because the Bears dont have a running game and the defense is average.

I'm not sure why everyone loves Roelisberger so much. Yes he win games but it's not like it's that hard when you have the #2 rushing offense and the #1 defense. Pitts passing offense was #28 last year. Ben had 1, 300 yard passing game and only 3 more in the 200's. And if they don't sign Hines Ward they might drop to #32 in passing offense.

Big Ben has a huge challenge this year. His stats fell as defense sat back and tried to confuse him.He did well his first couple games when the wisdom was to rush him. Then they just sat back on confused the shit out of him.He needs to learn to get better

Forget Orton. The real sleeper is Kurt Kittner. He played for Ron Turner at Illinois, and played well in the World League this year.
