Ok...we need veteran leadership...but Sam Cassell for a 6'7" young guy like Jaric that can play both the 1 and 2???

WTF???

This is just another example of why we are the Clippers.

"I've got a great idea...instead of resigning Jaric, let's trade him since he is only 26, throw in Lionel Chalmers who is 24, and let's grab 35 year old Sam Cassell who will never be the player he once was and was injured last season. He wore out his welcome just like Mobley did...he'll be a great addition since we couldn't land Bonzi Wells and his attitude!"

"Is JR Rider available?"

I was looking to see a post on this robbery. The Clips do get a conditional draft pick I think, but still onesided. If Minny gave him away they would be better, the rest is gravy. How do you root for that org?

Clip,

Sorry to hear about this trade. I just cant imagine Cassell being happy with this trade, as he has always played on winning, playoff teams. I cannot see this one working out. And why the Clips traded Jaric for this guy is just simply unexplainable. What a joke.

living in LA i can chime in here

Clips want 2nd year player Shaun Livingston to be their PG and by getting rid of Jaric they get something for someone who wasn't too big a part of their plans

now - we can argue the livingston point - but if the clips want him to be "the man" then this trade is a good one for them. they get a future draft choice for a player their franchise had no "room for" anyway.

No room for? The biggest holes on this team were a backup PG and a backup SG. Jaric could play both and is young. Cassell has a terrible attitude and is not near the defender Jaric is and cannot play 2.

This is a horrible trade. It would be different if Jaric could have left on his own via free agency and we just needed to get something before he walked. But he was a restricted free agent and we could have matched any offer. Minnesota couldn't make the 6 year/$40 mill offer they just gave him without a sign and trade. Jaric wasn't getting any offers because everyone knew the Clippers would match.

This is a horrible trade. Even if they wanted to deal him, they could have received a lot better in return. A conditional 1st round pick...that is trash. It is lottery protected so that doesn't mean much. All it does is give us a pick next year since we already traded our 1st rounder for next year.

Dunleavy is really starting to drive me nuts. What's next, trading for his son? He already tried it once.

What a joke.

I can't see him accepting a backup role on a team that will have to fight just to make the playoffs.

I just woke up, clicked my mouse to the Rx and have to see this post as the first thing this morning. WHAT THE FUCK????????????? You ruined my day.

This makes no sense. I could almost see moving both Jaric and Chalmers, (Both of which I like.) because we have a ton a guys who have to get minutes. To give them up for Cassell makes absolutly no sense!!!!!!!!! How does he fit into this rotation????

I'd rather have Drew Gooden then this fossil.:monsters-

Exactly...I don't mind trading them as long as we got some value in return. As I have been saying this entire off season, no matter where Jaric ends up, he will have a break out season this year.

We even offered Jaric and Wilcox for Drew Gooden and Cleveland said no. I was shocked BUT HAPPY about that. I still can't believe Dunleavy is trying to dump Wilcox for cheap.

But to take Cassell was just ridiculous. Minnesota might have just released him if they couldn't sucker someone in to taking him. Since the Knicks and Isiah already have about 15 point guards, Minnesota knew their best option for a sucker was gone so they went to the next best thing...the Clippers and Dunleavy.

I got some info on this and if it is true, then it's not such a bad deal. The Nuggets were going to offer Jaric a MONSTER contract that we couldn't match so we had to move him. We were going to lose him anyway and what this deal does is, by adding Cassell and moving Chalmers, we get a #1 and clear about 8 million in cap space for next year.

Yep...they were going to offer. But the Clippers could have worked a sign and trade with Denver.

Even then, Denver's offer wasn't going to be as good as Minnesota's contract wise. That is why his agent was pushing for this sign and trade. The Clippers could have matched the Denver offer. It isn't like we are getting close to the luxury tax (that is my dream...to see Sterling pay big enough salaries for us to reach the luxury tax...lol).

I would love to know how Denver can keep overpaying for guys (K Mart, Andre Miller, Boykens) and still be able to make offers like this? They make me nuts. Do you realize they've tried to sign every free agent we've had the last three years? Maggette, Brand, Jaric, Miller, Odom etc. Why don't they just buy the Clippers? It would be cheaper.

If Cassel doesn't get hurt. This could turn out good for the Clipps and Livingstons proggression. I think?

I can't see Cassell willing to accept a backup role at this stage in his career. He is very selfish.

His skills likely won't be an issue although he is probably not the same talent he once was. I am sure he is still one of the best mid range shooters in the NBA.

But Jaric would have provided a lot more depth since he could play both 1 and 2. I don't see any advantage of having Cassell over Jaric...especially for the next 6 seasons which Jaric is now signed for.

Yeah but Jaric didn't want to play here. I can't stand watching people that don't want to be here (LAMAR) play for us.
