I just made the squarest bet and the sad part is that is was for rather a large amount. I usually play around with props and stuff on games that I am watching. Usually small "for entertainment" bets. I was going to bet that nobody would score in the first inning of the Mets/Dodgers game. The price was -150. Thought it was pretty solid since it is Pedro and Penny and both offenses are bad. Then I remember that Cameron/Beltran cant play after the collision so I like it a bit more. Then I see Kent is sitting this one out. Next thing I know I have 2 minutes till post and I send it in. I just made a 5 unit bet out of a fun prop bet.

I am starting to think I am losing it. I would never bet that kind of money on a fun prop bet. I think this forum is getting to me. 1/2 way with penny getting out of it. Please Pedro, bail me out of my lack of control.

Don't sweat this once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. We all have our lapses. At least you are able to recognize what happened. Don't start to worry unless this becomes a habit.

I also have a major gambling problem. I lost my complete bankroll and then some over the course of this month. This week alone I lost over 40 units ($100 a unit). It seems like everything I touch turns to shit. I've hit rock bottom. I don't even have anything left for football. I've been through a couple of other sport forums throughout the years but you guys are the classiest. If someone wants to give me a lesson on money management one on one, I'll me more the happen to listen. Best of luck to everyone.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I am a very conservative gambler and bet well less than most people on this site and yet the gambling is very addictive.

It sounds like you have a real problem though and gambling can be terrible when that is the case. I'd consider giving it up all together. Smart money management requires alot of discipline and you can still lose money even with good mm.

You're absolutely right. It's just hard for me to enjoy a game without putting a wager on it.

Every time a take a big loss, I swear to myself that it would be the last time. But the next day I am firing away again. Thanks for your time cubsfn4ever.

Take it one day at a time bro. Call the books you use and tell them to cancel your accounts when you are in the "right state of mind" and ask them not to allow you to reopen a new account for a period of time, if ever. I had to do this for online poker. I was losing money, but the big thing I was losing most of was time and when I lost I noticed it was effecting my state of mind throughout the day. That's when I knew enough was enough! To take a stand you have to want to take a stand. If this is not money you can afford to lose, a lesson in money mgt. isnt what you need. You need to quit if this is the case. I've seen a lot of people hit the can because of gambling. It's a sad thing and something you never think can happen to you, but it very easily can.

Mister 7, you have to understand that money management is the answer. Read everything you can about money management. I do. There is a great little ebook at winningsportsbetsdotcom. If I can get your email I'll send you my copy. There are all kinds of articles on the net about money management. If you can discipline yourself to use money management properly, you'll find that it is actually hard to lose.

Even when the best cappers at this site recommend 3 units on this play and 5 units on that play, ignore that. It is quite rare for me to play more than one unit on any game. If you are having problems you should never play more than a unit.
If you adopt a very strict MM policy you will see your bankroll grow steadily.
Let me know if I can help. Will be glad to.

Ha ha, gambling's a bitch!
I've gone broke a couple times, totally totally broke last November. The thrill of the win & hitting solid picks keeps me in the game. I dropped a few dimes this year & gottem back & am up HUGE this year woo hoo! Luck can kill you & it can also save your ass. Sorry to hear you had a bad month. If you hang in there, determine what your errors are, & eliminate them, you too can come back!
I found that i played a lot of trap games, favorites with the public. I try to avoid the sure things & hit the less popular games. I'm never betting -200 ML or -14 point spreads ever again. Find value in good pitchers on the dog, or uncover false favorites due to bad offenses disguised by wins on low totals. Also find trends, like A's being hot or Boston winning 12 in row at home, & ride the wave.
I guess the best advice is to play amounts small enough so it doesn't hurt you bad, & you have the ammo to come back. But that's no fun right?
best wishes, JDub :103631605

Mister7, sorry to hear about your problems. All I can say is....been there, done that....and it wasn't much fun. I've had many tough years and some good ones over the last 15 or so years. In situations when things have just gone from bad to worse, I eventually hit a wall and just go cold turkey for a bit until I feel like I'm a bit more under control. What has happened to me and several of my friends (and I'm sure a ton of other gamblers), is we start going bad and then just start to chase. And then if we're fortunate enough to get it back, all of a sudden the small wager we used to make just doesn't give us that "high" anymore so we continue to bet heavy thinking we're really going to break the bank (now that we're even again and on this "hot" streak) and the vicious cycle starts all over again. If you're going to continue, it will be all about money management for the long haul. I think the advice mentioned is quite worthy. More times than not, people get in trouble when they start betting on the so-called "locks" and "games of the year". They step out way further than they have any business doing and then they're in the hole big time when it doesn't come through. Just bet within yourself and don't get too caught up in the hype. When it comes to football, I follow only two cappers here and could care less about anyone else (I don't care if they do get hot) and I make my own plays. I keep my bets to a minimum and I never get too high and I never get to low. I'm only a recreational gambler and realize now that my job and family and more important than some dumb game. I'd suggest cooling it for a bit, accept the losses you already have (the worse thing you can do is try to chase them...it's over....forget about it), and if you do start up again, make a policy that you will never bet more than a certain amount per game (an amount you are comfortable in losing). Get some hobbies, hang out with friends and family, eat right, and get some exercise. Gambling can really take over your life and it's not worth it!

Best of Luck my Friend

I started this post in a joking manner, but the truth of the matter is Gambling is a very serious problem for many people. Most of the successful gamblers (myself included) have had to hit rock bottom before realizing how serious it can be. You have to have rules you play by, and a plan that you follow. If you just "wing it" you are sure to have problems.

I wish those of you that are having problems the best of luck. Don't be afraid to ask questions, as many here have lived those same problems. And if gambling is running your life you probably need to get away. Still today, I have to take a week off just to remind myself of what is really important.

So true greed and a little alcohol can take over any time. I lost over 20,000 in one day three times in my life and try to always remember it when assaulting the books these days
