The full 16-player field of the Stardust Invitational (or at least 15 of 16 as sports book director Bob Scucci and host John Kelly said No. 16 still needed to be confirmed) as announced Monday morning on the "Stardust Line" radio show. It's a single-elimination tournament with two handicappers giving out seven selections at 9 p.m. each Friday in the Stardust sports book and aired on KDWN AM-720 (kdwn.com). There's a winner-take-all prize of $10,000 to the champion. Most are well-known handicappers. Some spellings might be not 100 percent:

Steve Cofield (radio host)
Fezzik
"Fairway" Jay Ginsbach
Andy Iskoe
Jeff Jones ("watchdog")
Marc Lawrence
Dave Malinsky
James Manos (Vegas Insider)
"Big" Al McMordie
Kevin O'Neill
Ed Salmons (Las Vegas Hilton sports book manager)
Randle "the Handle" Steinberg (from Toronto)
David Stratton
Tim Trushel
Ken Weitzner ("The Shrink," formerly of theprescription.com and now eog.com)

First matchup is Friday, Sept. 9, between defending champion Al McMordie and 2003 champion David Stratton

Jeff would be good, not sure he qualifies as a watchdog, though !

Doug, that was John Kelly's description of Jeff Jones...not sure what other description John could have used...maybe "critic."

If anyone wants some action, I'm willing to back the Shrink @15-1 odds.

I'd like to see a First Round matchup of Fezz and Shrink

A battle between one guy who will show up in shades and an afro wig and one guy who won't - but should

I can just see Shrink trying to take ODU despite the fact the Stardust won't have a line on the game

The field is selected mostly because of "name brand." Not the best handicappers, merely the loudest. Or those that have the capacity to promo the show and the Stardust in their own venues.

Couple of years ago the hosts gave Marc Lawrence the razz because the latter admitted he never bets the games himself. (Leaves it to the dupes to buy his services to do that.) Hope they stick it to him again.

The Stardust does try to pick good handicappers with some name recognition. Notice none of Jim Feist's boiler room operation scammers are in the feild of 16. You can bet they were lobbying hard to get at least one on the panel so they could use that invite to sucker more fools to buy worthless picks.

Randall the handle is either Sherwood from this site, or his brother, or both together. I'll pull for Randall ( Brian?) and Jeff, and Fezz.

No invite for Ted Sevransky after his candid words about the Feist crew last year. Curiously, there seems to be a lack of representention from the Feist crew in this years lineup. Coincidence?

It's a wig. He wanted to remain incognito because he still bets in town (where he's allowed to). A number of books in town won't take bets from him. We'll be updating the Fezzik photo to a non-sasquatch looking one soon.

One reason none of the Jim Heist crew was invited, could be traced back to last years contest when Feist crony Dave Cokin showed up late for the contest, was half asleep for the remainder of the show and gave out more losers than winners.

Look who is the Fave @ Olympic

Somehow I sense not even he would make himself the fave - especially over guys like Fezzik, Iskoe and Defending Champ McMordie
