Helpful Hints

1. Don't drink on an empty stomach.
2. Don't empty the shelf i.e. don't mix brown and clear liquor, don't have multiple brands of beer, and don't mix liquor and beer.
3. Pace yourself
4. Finish the night off with a tall glass of gatorade or water, or a combination of both.

royalfan - where did you hear about milk thistle from?
I used to take it for a liver condition I have but it didn't seem to do anything.

I dont drink beer at all, but a buddy of mine swears that if you drink it over ice, you will make it much longer before getting drunk

Juice, Here is a little something on milk thistle

SHP: And milk thistle?

Dr. DeSilva: Of course milk thistle supports a healthy liver. I think milk thistle supplementation is very important because very few people think about doing anything for their liver. I tell people that if they’re going to change the oil in their car, they should make sure to change the oil filter at the same time, otherwise the oil change is useless. The liver is the body’s “oil filter” if you will. Its job is to pick up impurities circulating in the body. Supplementing with milk thistle is much like changing the oil filter in your car.

I tell my patients to take a liver-cleansing supplement three or four times a week. I personally take milk thistle three to four times. I don’t take it every day because I’m not on any medications. I think people who are on medications should take milk thistle a little more often. And don’t forget to take in enough water to help cleanse the liver.

For real, if I'm out late and been having more than 5 or 6, I always try and take two Advil before I go to bed. In the morning when I get up, I drink one liter of bottled water as I'm going to work, which rehydrates me and I'm ready to go.

Rob - Thanks for the info, I knew more than most about it due to my own liver thing, but I never thought about it in terms of drinking alchohol.

For me, preventing a hangover is just a matter of staying awake as long as possible so I can process all the alchohol.
But usually I just pass out and deal with it the next day. That's what Sundays are for, hangovers and football.

Best cure I ever saw - isn't available to the average joe. When I worked in a hospital many years ago (12) I had a few young doctors tell me how they run a vitamin IV into their system after a late night partying (especially when at school) and it was the best cure ever.

With that being said - this was also a tip from one of them that has served me well. Obviously sleep is required, but if you can choke down one of those "Carnation Instant Breakfast" things before bed, its supposed to work miracles. I guess it replenishes a lot of the vitamins we whiz out through the evening.

Hope it helps someone. :toast:

Illini, I tell it like it is, a VERY lightweight drinker i guess.......man, I can only go six...six usually does it for me anyway...once I hit six, I'm buzzing and peaking, anything after that is worthless...the whole process is about 3-4 hours....in actuality, this is about the same as a baseball game ...lol, I'm more like a six inning pithcher than I thought!
