Higher total expected for Game 2 of double dip

It’s not often oddsmakers release a total for the second game of a double-header before the first is even played.
But then again, it’s not often two starting pitchers toe the rubber on just one day’s rest. So when Ryan Drese and Cory Lidle take to the mound in the second game of tonight`s double-header between the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies, bettors should expect a total of about 10 ½ runs.
“It’s a slightly higher total for that match but realistically they didn’t really do a lot of work [Tuesday] so they should be fine,” says Betcris linesmaker Shane Catford. “That’s what we’re thinking anyways.”
Both pitchers lasted only about an inning apiece Tuesday before rain forced umpires to call the game just 15 minutes after it had started.
While Drese was probably the first to run off the field, Lidle was visibly upset afterwards. His team had built an early 1-0 lead off Washington’s starter, and had just one out when the game was called.
"I`ve played a complete game when it was raining harder than this," said Lidle, who threw just 13 pitches. "The field was fine. The dirt was fine. The mound was fine. I thought they had a quick hook.
With just one win in his last seven starts, it’s easy to see why Philadelphia’s ace was upset. Lidle has been inconsistent all season. He’s dropped 1.65 units for backers this season, thanks mostly to his staggering 5.89 home ERA.
His opponent, Ryan Drese, hasn’t done much better. He’s winless in his last five starts and has less than one unit profit to his name.
And while pitching on an irregular schedule doesn’t help their cause, Covers Expert Bryan Leonard says the bullpen, not the starters, could play the biggest role at the hitter-friendly Citizens Bank Park tonight.
“If the teams have to use a lot of their bullpen [Wednesday] and then tomorrow [Game 1] they’ve got to play the doubleheaders with a spent bullpens,” he says. “That might have an effect on the totals and you may want to play over.”
Oddsmakers have the Phillies set as -153 favorites with a total set at 10.
