Im a new player that is learning pretty fast. Heres my problem. I like playing the 6 playermax tournaments at Doyles room. I lie not to you when I tell you I finish at least 2nd for a positive payout at least 80% of the time as long as I dont play at anything above the 15 dollar tables. Once I go beyong $15 bucks I get killed almost everytime. Does this happen to anyone else?

Im a tight player who does not see the flop except for maybe 25% of the time when im not in the $ blinds. But when I do get a good hand im not afraid to go all in. This works great on the lower tables because everyone seems to have a who cares attitude calling everysingle hand. When I get to the upper tables my strategy does not seem to work as well.

seeing the flop 1 out of every 4 hands is nowhere close to tight......u wanna see tight come follow me at stars where i might play 2 hands an hour....and your right that startegy will get you nothing but broke at the high levels....most of those guys are just waiting all day for an all-in player to come along..........if your making cash at a level...stay there!

triple p...2 hands an hour...you hit on a point...this is tight and respect you for this...then you need to be nearly 100% winner when "in" or you are not winning at any level... i have not kept exact records... but would guess somewhere around 45 hands per hour at a 10 player ring cost you on average 3.9 to 4.5 blinds no matter at what level..thus you must be in a winning pot that exceeds 4.6 times the blind average each and every time or you loose...

25% at a 6 max table is right about on target, ecspecially in nl. In limit I stick to about 22%. Full ring game, I play about 15-19%, the better you are the more hands you can play, if you are a newbie, make the mistake of playing too tight rather than too loose.

Forgot to mention, this includes hands that you play/call a raise with when in hte blinds.

lol....yea 2 hands an hr is the extreme but you get the idea...and for once elmer and i agree on something. at a 6 player table 25% might be about right since you have to loosen up a good deal....elmers 15 to 19 is wat id like to shoot for but im not very good at bluffing at pots so im pretty sure last time i looked im at more in the 8-11% range....i dont play very high 1-2/2-4 usually and even though im tight as oprahs waistband i dont have much trouble getting callers either....

also i was strictly tournies up until a few months ago so im kinda just gettin into cash games myself...

Well I will say this in regards to poker strategy. It really applies more to live NO LIMIT play than it does online though.

Anyone playing just 1 hand an hour will likely go broke by the end of 5 hours playing live. Reason being is that if you are ONLY PLAYING aces or kings, or even worse, ace-king, then you will be lose at times.

Ace-king can and will lose around 40-50% of the time if you are not betting aggresively.

Also, playing too tight will cause everyone to fold to you when you bet. And WHEN THEY DO CALL YOUR BET, you are destined to lose that hand most likely and it will cost you a shitload!!

Next time you are at the casino, watch the live NO LIMIT tables. The guys who have $2000-3000 in cash are the ones who play quite a few hands BUT ARE AGGRESSIVE!! Note that this doesnt apply to limit tables though!!

In LIVE NO LIMIT games, you NEED to play shit hands like 5-6 offsuite or suited if it is for no more than the standard blind. ALWAYS play suited connectors for only a 2x big blind raise!!!

Those middle connectors will win you a SHITLOAD when someone slow played their high pocket pair and they see shit on the flop. But guess what, they shit will allow you to call their $750 raise in no limit and win the hand without even betting your own hand!!

if you dont believe this, just hit the casino and watch the live $5-$5 no-limit tables. The minimum to join those tables is usually $100 with a maximum of $300 or so. Then pay attention to who you see has racked up over $2000-4000, and you see that they are VERY AGGRESSIVE players, but ALSO can read others players well!

p69..i agree..but at the position you describe you are leaving % card play..AA. v. 66 and moving into bluff play..the two are very distinct..this is where the skill of play comes into being..nothing more noting less...this is why sun glasses came into the game imho...hat etc...INTIMEDATION....

build your bankroll at the lower tables, and know that when you move up in limits, you have to start playing a little different, because your opponents will be...i like playing in the 10 person tourneys better than the 6, but that could just be me...

thats odd. for me, the higher stakes game played the more success, the lower stakes, i lose my shirt to greaseballs calling aces with a 76 off, flopping an open ended and making nuts on the riv lol. used to play at a different site wheen id kick ass at lower limits but when i went higher stakes i would lose ass and was convinced the shit was rigged. same thing when everytime i built a bankroll, cash some out, then lose for a while. after everytime i would cash out i go on a losing streak. quit that site. doyles has alot of suckouts to i noticed, still fairly new though, loose players any two will do. if your playin there get your rakeback deal as it adds up.
