MLB Hot Lines: Friday`s top wagers

Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies – under 10 ½ runs -1.10
You’ve gotta love the way bookies keep pinning high totals on Coors Field even when the altitude is the only reason to do so. That’s why the under is actually the better play in Colorado Rockies home games this season.
Mark Prior takes the hill for the Chicago Cubs this afternoon. He’s allowed more than three runs just once in his last seven outings and has submitted a total of three runs through three career starts in Colorado.
His opponent, Byung-Hyun Kim’s overall ERA of 5.33 isn’t inspiring and he got lit up by the Washington Nationals his last time out. But he has a history of bouncing back after a bad start and I expect him to do the same against a Cubs team that’s struggled a little this season against righties.

San Francisco Giants at St. Louis Cardinals – Giants +1 ½ (+115)
This one’s a little risky, but I think that anytime you can get a MLB club at +1 ½ runs with a positive payout you’ve gotta take it.
The Giants send struggling hurler Brad Hennessey to the hill. He’s allowed 11 earned runs in his last two starts, pitching a combined 5 1-3 innings in those tilts. However, the last time he strung two bad starts together, he followed it up with a seven-inning shutout performance.
Can you guess who the opposing team was? That’s right, the St. Louis Cardinals. Besides, the Giants bullpen should be able to bail him out if he gets in trouble. It’s posted a stellar 1.00 ERA in San Fran’s last three.
Cards hurler Chris Carpenter has been amazing all season long, but he’s thrown four complete games in his last six starts. That’s got to catch up with him eventually.
The Giants are also a little better on the road than they’ve been at home: 28-34 as an away team, compared to eight games under .500 at SBC Park.

Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels - over 9 ½.runs -1.10
It appears that Matt Clement’s bubble has finally burst after a strong start to the season.
The BoSox hurler is averaging more than one earned run per inning pitched through his last seven starts, all of which jumped the total. Clement held Texas to two runs in six innings his last time out. But even then the Boston bullpen managed to ruin things for under bettors, allowing five more runs in an 8-7 Red Sox victory. Boston’s relievers have a combined 9.78 ERA going in the club’s last three tilts.
The Halos slumped a little at the dish during the three-game set with Toronto, but their bats are probably still smoking after last night’s blowout win over Boston. They drove in 13 runs on 15 hits, the second time they’ve scored a baker’s dozen against the Red Sox this season.
Boston faces a formidable arm in Angels starter John Lackey, but in Boston`s last 15 contests, only Minnesota’s Johan Santana has been able to keep the under the number.

Kansas City Royals at Oakland Athletics – over 7 ½ runs -1.10
The A’s lumber has been slumbering lately, which is probably why we’re seeing such a tiny total on this one. However, a date with Jose Lima could be just what Oakland needs to get those bats in gear.
The 32-year-old hurler has the worst ERA among K.C. starters and got tagged for seven earned in 4 2-3 innings when he took the hill against the A’s Aug. 6. He’s also fresh off a complete game performance against the Detroit Tigers that ended in a disheartening 1-0 loss. The last time he lasted any longer than 6 2-3 innings he got spanked by the Chicago White Sox his next time out, giving up seven runs in four frames.
The Royals have been awful at the plate lately, hitting just .235 in their last 10, but I don’t think the A’s will need much help to get over this total. They averaged nearly 11 runs per contest when they played a three-game set with the Royals in early July.
