Sammy Sosa - batting .223, the WORST BA of any MLB outfielder (qualified leaders with 388 plate appearances) by 20 points. The worst on-base percentage also. Slugging percentage beating only a couple of lead-off hitter types. All this for nearly $20 million. Forget what an idiot Peter Angelos is for signing this guy, and forget for a second how pathetic his stats are, forget that lame excuse when caught with a corked bat, his appearance at the steroid hearing and forget him leaving the Cubs game early last year and crying that he was being blamed for the Cubs lousy season.
Here is a little summary from last night's O's game that tells you everything you need to know about Sosa, and this is not the first time he has made a bone headed base-running move this year:
in the second inning on a liner to left field by Sammy Sosa, who was so certain he had hit a home run that he hopped out of the batters box.
"I've never seen him intentionally do something like that," Perlozzo said. "It's not a concern that it was something detrimental to the team."
The only problem was that the ball struck the top of the wall and Sosa, who had trotted to first base, was thrown out at second base by a considerable margin by left fielder Juan Rivera. (note to Perlozzo - getting thrown out by 20 feet is detrimental)
"There's nothing to talk about," Sosa said. "I hit it pretty hard, but that's the way it is."
How does this guy keep getting plugged into the O's line up every night in the 6 spot?
Hey Sammy, keep swinging for the fences. YOU SUCK, but that's the way it is
