MLB Hot Lines: Friday`s best bets
Covers.com staff

Chicago White Sox at Seattle Mariners- White Sox +140
M`s rookie Felix Hernandez was nothing but a lot of hype up until recently. Now he`s Seattle’s golden child.
The young phenom is 2-1 with a 1.24 earned-run average in four starts since being called up from Triple-A in early August. He has struck out 30 batters in 29 innings and his 11-strikeout performance Aug. 15 against the Kansas City Royals was the most for a teenager since Dwight Gooden in 1984.
But how long can the good times last? You can’t keep winning forever and history dictates there must be a fall somewhere. Perhaps it will come Friday versus the AL-leading White Sox.
Chicago has won three of its last four and has rediscovered some of its offense after a seven-game losing streak. And this isn’t their first look at Hernandez either. The White Sox lit Hernandez up for six runs in three innings in an exhibition game March 28.
“I don`t think anyone who went to that game wouldn`t remember him,” Sox center fielder Aaron Rowand told the Chicago Tribune. “We`ve already faced him. It`s not like we`re going in dry.”

Atlanta Braves at Milwaukee Brewers- Brewers -136
Ben Sheets is a workhorse.
The Brewers right-hander has pitched nine innings in four of his last five starts with the lone exception being a six-inning outing in Colorado Aug. 15.
“I actually feel better as the game goes on," Sheets told mlb.com, “You just have to throw strikes. There`s no doubt about it.”
Now Sheets faces Atlanta, losers of five of their last seven. The Braves are hitting just .234 versus righties away from Turner Field this season.

Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox - Tigers + 192
Boston manager Terry Francona is livid with baseball’s powers-that-be after the Red Sox schedule had them arriving home from Kansas City at 4:20 a.m. Friday morning.
“I think this landing at 5 in the morning is so potentially hazardous to guys` health, I can`t believe major league baseball lets this happen,” Francona told reporters before Thursday’s game. “It`s tough.”
They come home to face a Tigers team that has won eight of 11 games and took two of three from the Red Sox 10 days ago.
There is no word on who Francona will rest after the late arrival but David Ortiz might be a possibility. The slugger sat out Thursday with a bruised hand and is batting just .130 off of Tigers starter Jason M. Johnson.

Houston Astros at L.A. Dodgers - Astros –135
As much as L.A. might not like Milton Bradley and think he is a distraction, the fact is the Dodgers are a far better team with him than without him.
L.A is 36-36 with Bradley in the lineup while they are only 10-21 when he isn’t. Now the controversial center fielder is on the 15-day DL and might require season-ending knee surgery. If that isn’t bad enough he may soon be joined by All-Star shortstop Cesar Izturis who will undergo an MRI on his sore back Friday.
The two starters will not be there to back up pitcher Derek Lowe who is 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA in his last three starts and is coming off one of his worst outings of the season. Lowe gave up six runs in just 3 2/3-innings as the Dodgers lost 7-1 as +130 underdogs to the Florida Marlins Sunday.
