DENVER (AP) -- Unable to practice much or play at all during the preseason, Maurice Clarett will be released by the Denver Broncos later this week, his agent said Sunday.

Agent Steven Feldman said Clarett, the troubled running back who the Broncos surprisingly chose in the third round of this year's draft, will be released when the Broncos make their first round of cuts.

"They didn't contact me, per se," Feldman said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "The kid called me and let me know they're going to let him go."

Clarett's pending release also was reported by ESPN.com on Sunday

It is astounding how many adults will give these kids very very bad advice and totally ruin people's lives in the process. This guy seems to have aged like

10 plus years since he was playing at Ohio State...Why in the world did he do this to himself... That whole thing about challenging the league was by far the dumbest thing any one could have done..There is not two ways about it...Even if he had won the court battle, he still would have lost untold millions because teams would not draft him early enough..They would look at all other better athletes on the board before even considering him... But forget those millions any way, the kid had to have considered the repercussions of failing to win that court battle..Where would he play? How far would his stock fall the years following his court battle...In a gamblers terms, he had way to much to lose than he would have gained (ie if he wins the court battle he would be lucky to be a 2nd round pick)

I wont be suprised to hear this kid jumped off a bridge some where...He must be cursing those idiot relatives of his that ruined a good thing he had going at Ohio State!!! He must be a very bitter man right about now..

He will have several more chances though, just feels like 'Lawrence Phillips' type situation developing here.

How often do 3rd round draft picks not even make their teams? It can't happen very often, what a waste of a pick. Shanahan the GM should be fired so that he doesn't continue to saddle Shanahan the coach with poor personnel decisions.

I should have some pretty good info on this tomorrow. Mad Mike is tough-this isn't really that surprising to me.

It is quite remarkable how this happened. The year Mo was at OSU was absolutely incredible. It was already a crazy football campus but that year was something else....and the only player anyone ever talked about was Clarett. He was dumb as a brick but had a ton of charisma and could be charming when he wanted to be. But I agree....too soon, too fast.....It also doesn't help when these kids come up in poor families....makes it harder to say no to the wrong people. Still, just based on how he completely dominated the Big Ten that year.....I just don't think he's done. Could see him maybe catching on in the CFL, tearing things up and going back to the NFL....a la Doug Flutie.

Parcells will take a chance on him. Just to put on special teams to see if he is tough enough!!

The only problem with Parcells giving you a chance........It will be your last if it does not work out!!!!

It was a compensatory pick at the tail end of the 3rd. And it wasn't Shanny. RB coach Boby Turner wanted to take a flyer on him.

With the success they've had over the last 8+ years with TD, Anderson, Gary, Portis, Droughns......you can hardly blame the guy for throwing one of his coaches a bone.

People laughed when they picked up Dayne also....he's been the surprise of camp in the backfield. Hard to question anything the donx do when it comes to

Understand what you are saying, but they already had several RB's and could have used that 3rd round pick on a different position, especially considering they didn't have any other picks until the 5th round. Picking up Dayne is a lot different because he was a free agent. Forget throwing one of the coaches a bone, that's no way to run an organization. Nobody else would have taken Clarett until the 5th round, and now we can see why.

Dub....

I'm a huge Bronco fan, so I'm probably biased. But I'm totally fine with this years draft. Especially since they raped the 'skins again. The kid CB's have really stepped up.

We'll never know if it was a truly wasted pick or not. I'd like to see a list of the final 3rd round pick over the last 10 or so years....doubt there's too many recognizable names on it.

I'm glad they turned out not to need him, but at the time there were some serious ??? marks at the position.

Bell looked liked he was ready to break out at the end of last year but has injury ???'s. Anderson is getting up there and also had injuries...plus he'd been forced into FB duties. Q is undersized and would be coming off a ACL. Dayne was a shot in the dark.

I'm not arguing that MoC is a bust or a cancer....I'm glad to see him go. But this years draft was inherently weak to begin with. I'm not gonna blame Shanny or his staff for taking a flyer at #100 or whatever. (especially since we get the skins 1st rounder next year...may they go 2-14!!)

GL this NFL season

On a pretty much unrelated note, the Chargers cut former CU QB Craig Ochs today.

Thanks, but see ya! :howdy:

Ochs the Colorado Buff, who always let me down, he was always close, but always blew it late with an INT.

This guy was released even before he got there. What would of been news is if he made the team. Now that would of been a shocker. Go Mike Anderson, sit down T Bell this year in Fantasy:party:
