White Sox over Texas as -150 faves
If everything is bigger in Texas, then left-handed pitchers must be colossal to the Rangers. Texas has been absolutely brutal versus southpaws this season, which is why Mark Buehrle can’t wait to toe the rubber at the Great American Ballpark tonight.
Not only does Buehrle own a perfect 7-0 career record versus the Rangers, but he’s shutout the troubled Texans in three of his last four starts. That doesn’t bold well for a Rangers squad that’s managed just 131 runs off southpaws this season on .262 hitting. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros have fared worse.
“When you`re matching up with Buehrle, runs are going to be tight,`` Texas manager Buck Showalter said.
San Diego and Arizona to play under 8 ½ runs
Bettors apparently already love the under in this one, so much so that they’re starting to see totals of 9 runs on some offshore sportsbooks. Take one look at Arizona’s shoddy hitting of late and you’ll understand why.
Before Sunday night’s 10-run outburst, the Diamonbacks had scored just 12 runs in their previous six games, hitting just .178 over that span.
“The hitters have to change their approach, the pitchers on the other team get to play around up there. I mean, they don`t have to go right at you,” said Luis Gonzalez Friday night after his team managed just three runs against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Florida and St Louis to play under 7 runs
Both Chris Carpenter and A.J. Burnett should see some help from Mother Nature in this one as the tail end of Hurricane Katrina is bringing a strong southerly wind into Dolphins Stadium.
According to forecasts, the wind is blowing at about 10 MPH from the south, meaning hitters will need a little extra pop in their bats if they want to go deep tonight in Florida. The under holds a 5-1 record at Dolphins Stadium when the wind is blowing in from the south between 10 and 20 MPH.
KC to upset the Twins as +155 dogs
K.C. managed to go .500 in its latest swing against Oakland, Boston and the Yanks, which isn’t too shabby for a team whose only big name is Mike Sweeney.
The Royals cleanup man has been on fire since K.C. snapped its franchise-record 19-game losing streak, batting .320 with six RBIs, including a two-run shot Sunday night against the Yankees. Although the Bronx Bombers swept the three-game set, Sweeney drove in five runs while scoring three times.
Add it together and you have the same number of runs the Twins have scored in their last three games.
"It`s been our Achilles` heel all year long," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said of the sliding offense.
