Reckon I still like him as a broadcaster and no harsh negatives to speak of other than his over joyous love affair with Brett Favre.

But then again, if anybody deserves it, it is Mr. Favre.

Madden like so many greats of the industry became too good for his own good, eventually you get stale, a mark of a great broadcaster is to never get stale...

I never saw the big deal about John, I don't dislike him, just never thought he was that special...I liked Fouts and Miller with Al .

Madden is "Ole School" which is not bad by no means.
I think he tells it pretty much like he see's it, ya know No sugar coating like many of the newer broacaster do and try to do.
I noticed one thing he keeps saying about these Lions....They AINT got it together...One has to wonder if they will get it together before Farve invades the dome?

Wrigley is exactly right. We all love him. We all respect him and his coaching and broadcasting past. He is tired. His schtick is tired. I am tired of him...and I used to LOVE his schtick. Anyone listen to Chris Berman and get tired of that? Me too. I like/love those guys but man....you guys is a' killin' me! TIME for Madden to retire. Al Michaels on the other hand is my top top top favorite fellow to listen to. Also, I like the Sunday night football guys of last year; gone now but I loved that team. Enjoyed them and the 'arguments' they would have..... tulsa

There are a LOT who are much worse(who have tried). He may seem like a babbling fool sometimes, but he's still top notch.

any proof Madden "lost it" some time ago shoul dbe put to bed when the Rams/Pats met in the SB and when NE got the ball late in a tie game

Madden said he would run out the clock and play for OT - despite the fact the Rams had ALL of the momentum and if that game goes to OT the rams EASILY win it. luckily brady/belichick/charlie weis aren't senile like Madden and didn't play for OT

Madden is hopeless and has gotten so bad he is "unlistenable"

as i said earlier - match him up with "Mr. EOE" (Stuart Scott) so NO ONE will listen to them for NO ONE would ever understand a word they said!

Agreed, Madden and Berman are both way played out and need to move on.. they both made an impact on sports broadcasting but their time has come and gone, especially Madden. Please, no more using the telestrator on some offensive linemans ass sweat..."See here, thats when you know the big men are working in the trenches.." :hitting:

Maddan is allright but he is Mr. Obvious. For example he'll say stuff like. "The Lions wanted to try and pass it on first down but the problem is if you dont get a completion than you put yourself into 2nd and long." No shit John great observation

So overrated it's pathetic--has been since day one in the booth.

As far as coaching--one of the best. His avg wins per year is at the top and most of his years were during a 14 game season.

It's time to punt him to the curbside with the rest of the trash. The only television announcer earning his money these days is Johhny Miller.

Remember, there is a HUGE audience out there that do not have the football intelligence of the average RX'er.

Madden is hit and miss for me. For every astute comment he makes, he follows it up with a babbling dialogue seemingly designed to ensure that there is no silence on the airwaves during one of his games. He gets paid to give his opinions, which, unfortunately, he gives, even when he has nothing to say.

I still like broadcasters like Vin Scully, who know when to shut up. If you ever see the re-broadcast of Gibson's 1988 World Series homer, notice how effective it was when Scully shut up for a few minutes and let the situation speak for itself as Gibby rounded the bases. I can't picture Madden doing that.
