like all the people they have on camera just walking out of grocery stores down in New Orleans? Remember, these people have nothing left! They are trying to survive. Cops aren't even stopping them. This is different than going into the electronics store and swiping dvd players and tvs.

Would you do it if you haven't had food for 2 days and things were looking like hell such as the current state of NO?

Give me a break. Most of these people are looters. They will be in your house stealing your IPOD in a day. And they can't eat that.

when we evacuated last year we took enough clothes and food for several days. had we lost everything we were at least a little prepared.

these people stealing would probably steal under normal conditions.

NO. This isn't the Donner Party. They won't have to eat each other. The Red Cross is there and distributing these things. Theft isn't acceptable.

That's exactly right. They only need a reason to loot or riot, and I'm speaking of poor people/criminals lest you think this is a racial call b/c it isn't...There was massive looting in Florida after Andrew by the resident red neck population.

you guys, except fish, aren't answering the question. This city is a mess, these people have no homes left and help is not very readily available, they can't go anywhere.

I answered it twice now. NO I wouldn't. There are plenty of options. You simply make excuses for these people when the history of these disasters is that dumb people will steal if there are no consequences. Period. And if you think they are only robbing groceries, than you should re-up with Little Nasa.

is it stealing? or Borrowing? would I borrow,, HELLL yes if it meant my family (or children) would not go hungry,,,, food is one thing,,, COMMODITIES are completely diffrerent,,,, show me someone breaking into a Jewelery store,,,,and I would bring a log upside their head,,,,

show me a mother swipeing a loaf of bread and cakes for her kids to eat,,, and I will hold the bags for her,,,

thanks for your opinions too vaulted...i don't think i gave mine.

I would steal food and water if i was stuck down there right and had no food for 2 days. This area is going to be a wreck for weeks to come so if i was stuck there with nowhere to go, I would take a cart full of groceries to survive!!

i dont feel for people that didnt make any preparations . especially those with children.

their is ample warning to get one's family ready for something like this.

i think everyone in the southeast should have learned enough from last year to not sit back and do nothing.

it isnt that hard to pack up a couple of days worth of food.

help will be there by the time you start to get hungry.

I don't want to rationalize, but I wouldn't hesitate to go to the store and see if I could find some necessities: 1.) I, personally, would prepare better than that and 2.) would return to pay for the items. Technically, it's theft. I would like to say that I would never even technically steal, but I would go to the store and walk out with honey buns if my children were hungry...I would go back and pay for it. tulsa

W#1....not everyone in this world has a place to go or even a car for that matter...these people that stuck around are sitting on their rooftops right now! Where are you going to store food and clothes at? There are many poverty-stricken communities that aren't going to be able to flee up the interstate in their suburbans like you would be able to and thus have to resort to stealing food and water to survive!
