Nope, I'd stick around & do whatever I could to protect my property (from the storm and the looters). Small boat and a chainsaw in the attic in case things got shitty, but I'm going to ride it out unless it was an absolute worst case (which this has turned into a day after the storm passed).

I've chased tornadoes all my life, so you have to realize that I have a thing for weather.

Stayed 2 times last year alone. With the eye coming right over my city. Where I lived wasn't a mandatory evac. but about 3 miles away was.

But I must say if my city was below sea level I'm gone.

Generally the worst part of hurricanes, at least the ones I've been through isn't the storm its after the storm. Between 2 last year I didn't have power, or water for 27 days. That sucked. Of course I guess if your house got F-ed up during the hurricane it would make it much worse. Luckily my house has never had damage from any.

Easy, where you at? PSL?

Our house is a few hundred feet from the intracoastal, and anything over a 3, my wife and I and the pets are out of here, no thought even given. I was in a mandatory evac zone, but I assessed the situation, and realized that we were not going to be in danger by staying, so we stayed. But we are also equipped with a concrete block house and hurricane proof windows.

Which leads me to what has bothered me through this whole thing. I think that anyone that had the means to leave NO actually left. It was all of the people that don't have a car (which I would believe is quite a bit, since NO is a pretty large size city with public transportation) that were basically stuck there. So basically most of the poor got poorer because they couldn't leave.

This storm was too big and with the NO situation of being below sea level, and assumedely with most of the buildings there not built out of concrete like we most here in S. Fla., I can't imagine people being so naive as to think they could survive a large storm.

I have never been to the Big Easy, and it is such a sad situation. Take some betting profits or skip a night of wagering and donate to the Red Cross.

If a mandatory evacuation was called for, I would grab the kids, maybe the wife and leave.

Personally, In my situation and after going through Hurricane Charley, I would stil not leave. If I was in NO though I might choose to leave. Main difference is that NO is below sea level and the different population that lives there.

Would leave right away to beat the rush. Call State Farm on cell and say "Send the Check to this New Address".

You just head for Las Vegas, and if you're lucky you bump into some RX'ers to sympathize with
