Saints owner Tom Benson has been threatening the Louisiana and New Orleans politicians for awhile now that he needs a new stadium or will be moving Saints. With the second largest market open, Benson has been eyeing Los Angeles as a likely destination. I am sure NFL would support this move as they have been eyeing getting a team back in LA for a few years now and would have 5 years ago if stadium plan was acceptable as Houston expansion team would have been LA. I will go out on a limb and predict that Saints will move to LA. I don't know when lease expires in Superdome, but there may be an out clause due to this damage. What is your thoughts?
His deal signed recently is too good to go to LA. He gets guaranteed money, something around $10 mil a year I believe. The franchise is profitable, like all others in the NFL, so its just a sap to a rich guy to be paying him off. If he goes to LA he loses the guarantee and playing in that market only benefits the NFL and probably not him much unless he gets a juicy deal to go there. Remember the NFL is the one sport where the local market means little to you unless they are not coming out to the games. There is no extra money being in LA over NO unless you can sell 10,000 more tickets or sell tickets at far higher prices.
