i understand the difference between hurricane and terrorist attack , but in terms of lives changed and devastation , their is no comparison .

3000 people dead and family members lives ruined on 9/11 and a country at war.

10's of thousands peoples lives devastated and cities pretty much gone..

can you compare ?

Not even close unless the number of dead is a lot higher then they think. People will have to put their lives back together, but at least they get the chance to do that!! Not so for the thousands on 9/11.

Sad either way though.:sad3:

Its worse.

With terrorists you can at least attempt to contain them.

With hurricanes, you re helpless. Mother nature's way of telling us not to fuck with it...

<!--StartFragment --> The quake was much greater than any to rock the planet since 1964. The consequent tsunami devastated coastlines around the ocean and killed around 226,000 people, with millions left destitute. Here, we explain the geophysics behind the disaster. more...

i believe this was the latest count

9/11 ruined the economy, changed our way of life, killed thousands of people, made things like the Patriot Act acceptable,.....not even comparable.

vaulted, i understand what you're saying but, think about it, say another cane hits the US in the next month, which is not that unlikely, say it wipes out Florida.....just one this big has taken a huge toll and we're no where near the end of cane season...

and if you ask me this last cane, as powerful as it was may be an indication of things to come.

No way is this even close. Imagine if terrorists gave big warnings and then blew up buildings. They do that in Spain, but obviously we won't catch such breaks if they are going to do something.

Remember the key part of the word is "terror" and that is why 9/11 was many times worse than this. People who live in NOLA and around Gulfport/Biloxi always knew this was something waiting to happen. Same goes for Miami, do all these people paying half million for modest houses around there take into account something like this is bound to happen to them too?

Good points. Not to mention no one was faced with "jump or burn"

not that u can compare the two at all...they are equally as bad.....one part about this hurricane though is that people in NY could go to the bathroom, get a glass of water, eat in their kitchen, sleep in their beds, go to the store, etc the next day. Nobody will be doing any of this for MONTHS in New Orleans. An entire city has been wiped off the map, not a few buildings. Long term effects, I would say NY just a little bit worse since we had to go to war over it however this gas thing may get outta hand here.

Both events, very very bad. One is worst terrorism event ever on US soil, the other is worst natural disaster ever!
