if a depression hits gas will be dirt cheap
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.
Thomas Jefferson, Letter to the Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin (1802)
3rd president of US (1743 - 1826)
Right enuf. I can check.
3.785x$2x1.2=
$9 gal gas
$10.2 diesel
So it's actually as cheap as chips.
Taxes will become a huge contributor towards reducing consumption over the next few years.
It's already getting easier to drive around town.
A year or two ago I would always get hung up if I dared to go into town.
The city used to be jammed with soccer moms during the afternoon, out collecting their crippled brain damaged children from school in 250 horsepower 4x4 chelsea tractors.
People just waste stuff bigtime if it's too cheap.
$20 a gallon is an ideal price, because we can afford it, but we won't waste it.
That's going a little too far (eek); it should level off at the price of "Designer Label" bottled water.
you euro weenies don't go around bombing people over oil and at the same time cut deals with saudis who's people fly airplanes into our buildings
you don't have any domestic production and your refinery capacity isn't that great because demand just isn't there like the US
US a big country and people need to travel all over it for a variety of reasons
also our economy as a whole is quite dependent on relatively cheap gas the reason you hear spoiled americans bitch about it so much
that said i agree high prices are a good thing IMO
but not convinced they will stay elevated for very long assuming shit hits the fan as far as the global economy goes
When "Tizzy" wades in, he does it with both barrels; you have to give him credit.
One way Euros have answered the call is to drink fruit juices from rectangular boxes that leave no empty spaces in the trucks they are shipped on. Same goes for a lot of the milk they drink. Talk about efficient! Americans are so spoiled that they like to have handles on jugs and that sort of thing. Tsk tsk.
Is anyone here taking bets when the gas price reaches $6+ a gallon?
Ill make a prediction that before June 1, 2010 $6+ gasoline becomes reality.
Possibly much sooner.
Price touches $6 the bet is a winner.
No money involved as Im not making a money bet with a poster I dont know when I can make a similar bet in the market with very juicy + odds.
Instead lets bet the loser gets a vacation from therx (entire site not just poli forum) for a while.
I was thinking maybe a 60 day vacation, starting June 2, 2010 for me, or sooner for you if $6 happens on or before June 1, 2010.
If that sounds good, let me know. Id be happy not having to read your hot air for a couple months.

yesterday saw $4.59 for regular in Ventura, CA
still not to 4 nationwide average yet
first decline in price at pump in a while at 3.986 down .3 cents since yesterday....diesel peaked out on may 30th...4.792 peak now 4.76
but oil to new highs of 139 so might make it go higher going forward
gonna be hard to keep prices at the pump going up now that we got UE at 5.5% and a crap job market
to go along with all the other problems as J6P doesn't have enough money in his pocket to be able to afford 4 dollar gas
if we bomb iran or some hurricane hits the coast than you might see prices go nuts obviously......
well we made it to 4 national average

Winter storms and icy temperatures in the southern U.S. has caused a spike in gasoline costs, pushing prices up by nearly a dime per gallon over the past week.
A survey of gas prices Monday found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.55 per gallon in Rhode Island. Prices are 9 cents higher than they were a week ago and 19 cents higher than on Jan. 22.
