TIME: Wednesday, 2:05 p.m. EDT.

Mark Redman hopes to end a six-start winless streak when the Pittsburgh Pirates close out a two-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Redman has won only once in his last 13 starts after allowing three earned runs or fewer in 13 of his first 14 outings this year.

"I would have told you were crazy back then if you'd told me he'd be 5-14," Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon said of his veteran left-hander.

Redman has lost 10 of his last 11 decisions, but is 5-2 with a 2.38 ERA in seven career starts against Milwaukee. That includes his only career shutout in a 2-0 victory over the Brewers on May 14 in Pittsburgh.

Rookie Paul Maholm pitched eight brilliant innings Tuesday and the Pirates had a five-run first inning in a 6-0 victory over the Brewers, snapping a five-game losing streak.

The Pirates' first-round draft choice in 2003, Maholm replaced Zach Duke in the rotation when the rookie phenom went on the disabled list. The left-hander kept the Brewers 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

"This is more than I could ever have expected my debut would have been," Maholm said. "What happened was way better than I thought it could be. I was just trying to keep the game winnable for us and with a five spot that made it pretty easy."

The Brewers have lost three consecutive games since staff ace Ben Sheets tore a back muscle, resulting in season-ending injury.

Right-hander Tomo Ohka will take the mound for Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Ohka has won three of his last four starts, posting a 3.33 ERA over that span. A win over the Pirates would give Ohka at least 10 victories for the third time in four seasons.

Brewers get a leadoff double in the 3rd and don't score...let's hope that doesn't bite us in the ass later on

That -2 line was just too tempting for you huh? Hopefully this won't be the end of the Brewers' scoring either way, for you to get your winner and me not to sweat this one out. Good luck:toast:

Ohka gets out of the 2 out jam by striking out Bay on 3 Swing and Misses.

Redman's @ 78 pitches coming into the 5th with Weeks, C. Lee, and Bill Hall due up. Hope they can put up a few this frame.
