Impossible for a new book to make it at this stage unless they have Mansion type backing financially. Player acquisition costs are through the roof.

A new book would not only have to spend millions in marketing, they would also have to take a loss by offering either big bonuses or reduced juice just to compete with the other offers that are out there.

Even with the financial stability/backing AND a great offer...there really isn't much reason for anyone to use the book when there are already established books with a proven track record that offer everything a player would need.

Very tough (nearly impossible) to jump in the industry now and try and make it. Even the smaller books that have been around for a couple seasons are having a very hard time. I think we will see more and more acquisitions by the larger shops over the next few years.

Just my opinion...

The Market that is attractive now to investors is POKER..THats where the interest is..for example..I GOT POKER..new, and $$ to advertise..

Its tougher today to start a book..But with $$ and internet advertising power you would have a chance..The market is flooded, but strong new options will always have a place in the market..

For example..Did Vegas need another hotel/casino..Probably not..But a successful player like WYNN is making it happen..

Gamblers are fickle..If they believe they cant win at your spot, they move on..

Though it will be perceived by some as a negative the big shops gobbling up the smaller establishments, I see it as a positive. It will make it much safer for the sports bettor as the shops with shaky backing are weeded out. We are moving in the right direction, especially as compared to five years ago, when it was a virtual crapshoot unless you were "in the know" about what books were trustworthy.

I believe forums such as The RX deserve a great deal of credit for the positive direction we are going.
