I have a question for those of you that "sport invest" at home full-time.

How do you handle all the nosey friends and relitives that want to know "what the hell do you do for a living" ? (for those who want to keep this low-key).

I know a guy, that doesn't answer the door or the telphone from 9 - 5 everyday and in the evening he says that he's busy.

We've been through this before.

Its really a personal decision as to what you choose to tell friends and relatives when you work at home on your computer making short term investments.

Indeed, many people work at home now a days. Online trading, Web design, etc.

woody...thanks for the reply BUT for those of us who missed the past disscussion regarding this topic, I would like to hear some original and clever cover up ideas from those who are actually doing this.

simply telling people "I make short term investments" usualy leads to more curiosity and questions.

I was thinking more like "I sell Amway products"..would you be interested in buying some? hell, most will head for the hills and never bother you again.

If you want to discourage people from enquiring too closely bamboozle them with jargon and if they want to know more tell them they need to have the right background.

So you are into short term investments, taking futures and options and interactively monitoring the market for trends and positions. You will also use spreads and straddles with both divergent and equivalent closing times. Strike price and commission are important in relation to your profitability. Really all the stock market terms apply and as long as you don't talk with a stock trader you are OK.

You don't give opinions on stocks since you don't want to give tips to your friends on what might be losing positions.

Its really a matter of what feels comfortable to you.

bamboozle them with jargon... you did that very well, that would definitly get most people to ask themselves " why did I even bother to ask this question"? :icon_conf

Thanks Woody

I know of a person who told everyone that he was a "professional Gambler" to family, friends and "the nosey neighbors", he told me that after he told people this combined with his high lifestlye of living most didn't ask "Can you teach me to be a professional sports bettor" ? rather they only wanted to ride on his coattails in the hopes of the easy money.

i trade foreign exchange for a living and bet horses, dogs, roulette and sports bet, recently into poker.

i have tonnes of live trading dealing systems set up at home and if anyone asks what i do i say im like a stock day trader (as fx is relatively new thing)

if i were you id go to www.fxcm.com and download some demonstration software so that anyone questions you - just say ill show you what i do. that account gives you a demo 50 k and you can just play around with it.

thats if you wish to deflect the true nature of your business

for me in my industry all my friends trade so its no big deal

hope that helps gbogo - get big or get out

if you don't mind me asking other than market news and world events what other forecasting methods would one use?
