I noticed at the end of the 1st quarter, in the Memphis/Ole Miss game, Ole Miss had the ball, clock running, and they got a delay of game penalty, so they marked off the 5 yards, then the clock started running again, and the quarter even ended before they got a play off.....

So if the clock starts after a delay of game, then why dont teams do that at the end of the game, when they are trying to run the clock out? they could take delay of game, and run off another :30 sec off of the clock....

Is the rule different in the 4th quarter? of did they just make a mistake this time?

Anyone know?

It depends on if the clock was running on the play ( unless the player went out of bounds or incomplete pass) before the penalty....

In the final two minutes the clock does stop under the same circumstances.

Here is another 1 I learned this weekend. (Unless the announcers were wrong). During the PSU game, a PSU defensive linemen intentionally tripped the RB in the backfield. "There is no flag on the play bc you are allowed to trip in the interior or between the tackles."

I guess I have never seen it before but it looked strange.
