PHILADELPHIA - Andy Pettitte limped back to the dugout after the third inning and considered taking off his left shoe to survey the damage caused when he was hit by Brett Myers' infield single. Fearing the swelling would make it impossible to get the shoe on again, Pettitte was discouraged from taking it off.
From there, it was a race against time and the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
The Astros needed four relievers to hold on for a 4-3 victory after Pettitte was sent to the trainer's room with a four-run lead after 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
