First I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in. If so, please move me to the correct forum. :103631605

Right now I have Comcast cable but I have been thinking about getting Direct TV. Of course I'd like to get it for the NFL Sunday Ticket. But I also want to know other things about it. Such as having problems with reception during bad weather, quality of channels, and customer service. I would like to know if installation was easy when they came to do it. Also Comcast offers High Def channels and I definitely would want those. I know Direct Tv offers pretty much the same HD channels but just wanted to know how the local HD channels came in with a local antenna (to pick up Monday Night football and such on HD). And also how your HD box works if you have one.

Basically I would like your opinion on Direct TV vs Cable. Pros and cons if you have them.

Thanks so much for taking your time to read this.

I have had it for years with the only complaint being it sometimes goes out during bad weather, but so did cable. Installation is a very simple process.

I've had DirecTV for over 7 years, but for the last 1.5 years I have been paying for it! :sad3:

I like it. Reception is no problem, usually during bad weather, but it depends on the intensity of the thunderstorm. My signal strength is usually in the 90's, but yours may vary, depending on how well your dish can see the sky.

Customer service? I never call. Don't need to. Their web site is pretty well laid out and all your questions can be answered from their.

HD selection sucks. They need more HD channels. I don't even bother to subscribe to HD because their simply isn't enough value in it for my dollar.

I pay $39.95 a month for the package I have, plus I subscribe to ESPN Game Plan and the NFL Package. I don't need anything else.

Cox Cablevision can kiss my ass. They kept raising the rates, so I left them a long time ago.

direct tv

I had both cable and direct tv forever.Cancelled cable about 3 months ago because picture wasnt as good.I have in my living room a 61 high def with 4 27 regular tvs around it.Direct tv is great but you must have cable.Today I am reordering cable. The problem with direct tv is that it takes about 2 seconds longer to see the same play on a football game or any show. That means everyone who has cable is in charge,we with direct tv are pawns, cable watchers know the result of the play 2 seconds before you. Your rooting is useless, the play already happened.Like tonight in the football game,we had a party (not at my house) hd tv is set up to direct tv and I had to go upstairs to watch cable because miami was losing 10-0 and we had no control on rooting them in because the cable rooters were in control( I left 30 people all rooting for miami)the pressure being upstairs with cable was unbearable.I watched Miami was doing great,I came down stairs with rest of party hoping cable watchers had some mo to bring Miami in for a score.Again I was on direct tv and with no reason to be rooting we saw Miami get nothing. If you dont mind just watching go Direct TV if you want to have a rooting interest stick with cable.I need both.Sicky

I've had Direct for the past 5 months, Cox cable for years before that. Pretty similar service, but I hate Cox cable's:

1. customer service (I wonder what these Cox customer service phone morons actually look like, because they sound pretty retarded).
2. price - I was paying 3 x for Cox + InterNet than I am now for Direct TV (but no InterNet).
There are mild delays on Direct (see above post), but it's no big deal. Plus, for some reason, without me ordering it, I get free porn on Direct on two channels. PORN, for crying out loud! FREE! Based on this alone, Cox simply doesn't stack up to Direct...

Great thing about Direct TV is that you get to watch games on ESPN that might not be on in your market. The Baseball and College Football that are regional. Dumped Cable and will never go back.

No way I can go back either, because I bet arena football and CFL football. With cable I see virtually none of these games. With Direct TV, I get a ton of AFL and CFL games. If you want sports, you have to have Direct TV.

IS IT TOO MUCH TO HAVE A SATTELITE DISH THAT WORKS AND NEVER GOES DOWN IN CANADA IN THE YEAR 2005. I AM STUCK WITH REGULAR CABLE AND HAVE TO PAY FOR SPORTS PACKAGES. YES I KNOW I HAVE IT ROUGH.

I have had Direct TV for 3 years. It is awesome, it is simply the best.

That is my opinion of it.

I have had every package you can think of from them at one point or another and have been happy with all of them. Only ones I havent got yet, are the ESPN college pkgs.

RPM is right, and that is becuase comcast is not true digital in a lot of their channels unlike DTV which is 100% digi through and through. To top it off, comcast has inferior CS and higher rates.
