The Pirates are expected to announce this afternoon that Manager Lloyd McClendon has been fired, a source close to the team said.
McClendon, the team's manager since October 2000, was not expected at PNC Park today. Pete Mackanin, the Pirates bench coach, will manage the team for the rest of the season, the source said.
McClendon has never had a winning season in his five years at the helm. The Pirates are currently tied with the Colorado Rockies for the worst record in the National League.
